Traumatic Experiences Community Daily Check-in: Thursday January 10th
Happy Thursday Trauma Community!
We've almost made it through another week. Keep going and let's power through together.
Today I want to share this TED Talk given by trauma survivor, Lindsey Roy. It's a little lengthy but worth the listen if you have 20 or so minutes today. Lindsey speaks about finding happiness and purpose after living through a traumatic accident.
- If you watched the video, in what ways can you relate to Lindsey?
- Is there anything she said that you particularly resonated with related to your own trauma experiences?
- Other thoughts?
Check out the video, tell us how you're doing, just say hi or ask for a hug if you need one.

I have been rewiring so called brain and my perspective for many years. It's not the case for the most but I had the an amazing therapist who was also a trauma survior like me. She really educated me why our brain is wired to have flashbacks and how it's misunderstood. She called my flashback a Safety Net. My brain was trying to warn me to aknowledge the danger of my trauma by giving me flashbacks and triggers. I don't know why but that very perspective helped me appreciate my brain. You know, " thank you my brain for remembering. I will be safe".
When I started to appreciate ME helping myself from any harms way and I embraced all my triggers and flashbacks. Funny but my triggers and flashbacks reinsured me that I am safe. This is a brand new perspective that helped me through some tough times.
I can relate in so many level as the survivor in the video. Only way for me to get better and walk the recovery was to changing my perspective entirely. But I am not here to judge, there is so many different ways to walk the path of recovery and everyone is different. I just wanted to share mine.
@Kate I keep remembering some of the chid abuse I experienced when I was a teen but it is too late to do anything about it because it was on the internet and I never told anyone because I was ashamed.
@Kate
I don't have time to watch it today but will gladly come back to it later. Thanks for sharing these resources.
