Traumatic Experiences Community Daily Check-in Tuesday 17th October 2017
Hi everyone!
Do you know how enjoyable it can be to get creative.. how sometimes when talkng with another on a topic it just seems to flow and there is an energy as ideas bounce backwards and forwards.That's what Tamba and I did recently as we talked about the 'path to healing.' Thought we would share something of this with you today.Started off agreeing that its step by step, and baby steps at times, maybe one forward and a couple back and that's okay. What's important is to notice the progress, even the most minuscule.
And as she said it can feel like a force ten gale blowing against you, torrential rain on your face, head bowed, and on crutches. The song "You'll Never Walk Alone" came to mind.... "When you walk through a storm..
Walk on through the wind
Walk on through the rain,
Though your dreams be tossed and blown.
Walk on, walk on,
With hope in your heart,
And you'll never walk alone."
We can't do this alone. We need people alongside. We can't always push though. Its okay to rest. And we need to build a shelter to rest in... a safe place.. maybe its the blanket fort! And so we walk on.
And we'll give the last word to that most loveable bear Winnie the Pooh : "Don't walk behind me; I may not lead. Don't walk in front of me;I may not follow. Just walk beside me and be my friend."
How is your day going? What helps you to keep walking on the path to healing? Have you or someone else noticed a step you have taken recently? Love to hear from you. This is your space and a safe place. x

The struggle is real, I am really having a difficult time leaving my bed this morning. I know that I have to get up and go to work but I don't want to deal with people today and I will have to at work also because it is cold out and my bed is so warm and confortable. The motivation to stay is more overwhelming then the motivation to get up.
To all of you this morning, come on. We might as well do this, it won't get any easier but maybe eventually our minds will realize that physically we get up everyday and it might as well get on board. Hoping to hear that most of you have successfully conquered this big step with me today.
@EMSFireChic1985 It can be tough indeedsometimes hon. Sometimes we need only get up and start to do something and the day takes over. Sometimes we must make ourselves get out of bed like we're answering a call in the night. And sometimes it's ok to stay in bed a few whiles too. I hear ye hon. hugs.

Hi everyone,
I am moving rather slowly today. I do have something to share with the hope it will touch others as much as it touched me. A little background may help and I will try to keep it brief.
Many of us struggle with issues surrounding our families. Without going into detail, it has been a central theme during my healing process. The lack of boundaries as a child continued into adulthood in a way that interfered with my ability to heal. After a great deal of discussion, I made the decision to separate from them while I focused on becoming strong enough to maintain boundaries and develop other coping skills. Eventually, the correct decision for me was to interact with them with the knowledge that things would never be as I wished they could have been when I was a child. I can honestly say that I am at peace with the decision. I can also say that I have to consistently check myself, realize that I will never understand the situation and see them in the true context of compassion. I dont make excuses nor do I try to explain their current behavior. I see their deep rooted emotional and physical pain. I wish they would seek help to lessen their pain yet I know it is their choice. I thought I had closed the chapter, until... I received the most beautiful reply from Kite. He called me a part of the family,this family. Tears of joy filled my eyes as I acknowledged the yearning to be a part of a family. Here, I learn what family really means.

How is your day going? What helps you to keep walking on the path to healing? Have you or someone else noticed a step you have taken recently?
My day is going ok. At morning felt low and now a bit tired at night. I got tired of being scared, idk sometimes somth just feels right in my guts but doesn't seam such realistc like so confuse me...
@rozie
I don't really have much to say... but I will say something... Been having some inner writhing going on. Like I have some kind of miasmic poison in my gut. I've been doing things for self-care and it feels like it's lessening. But I'm really pissed off. A very unhelpful person congratulated me on recovering well and then went off on this thing about how what I was really focusing on wasn't REAL. Thanks.
The funny thing is this person has tried to keep me in a delusion of their own, where they "protected me from myself". They can't handle reality or truth, or anyone else's perceptions. So many times I was made to be the delusion/hysterical/psychotic one...but the TRUTH is.... when I started realizing and finally giving my mind permission to say, "Yeah, what they're saying and doing is bullsh*t. This IS something I experienced." I started healing, changing for the better. But they blame my "condition" on depression when if anything their abuse left me with a lot of sedimentary layers to deal with before getting to my root traumas. To them, I say a great big f*** you! Because my perception is relevant and does matter. My feelings, thoughts, wants cannot be TOLD to me by another person. I don't owe anything to these people. And I will not stand alone while they cower, rage, and bully. Pretending there's not a problem does not make it go away.
...I have a lot of work to do. On a LOT of aspects of my life, but that's fine. Growing is part of being a living thing, after all. A flower cannot reach its true magnificence if it does not grow.
@rozie
Hey, I've never been on this thing before but I missed my therapy session tonight ... snowed under at work and feeling a little lost
@DSEAO1980 Hi, and Welcome to the Traumatic Experiences Communtiy Daily Check-in. I'm Raven
Sorry you missed your Therapy, that can certainly be nerve wracking. Anything we can do to help yo feel less confussed?
@DSEAO1980
It is good to see you here. It sounds like a busy day. I am really sorry you were not able to make it to therapy today. If you want to share anything here, please feel free. We are here to listen and support you.
I'm here. But feeling a bit under the weather, coming down with a cold or something and have been having horrible leg pain since saturday. I took a leap of faith and took back some of my voice by participating in the #metoo campain this week and sharing some of my trauma.
@christine1980 Sorry to hear of your physical woes, may they pass quickly.
Good job at getting involved!
I'm glad to see you're getting more comfortable here. Please feel free to post me or any of the Team if you need any additional support.
Today I went to my art class. It isn't art therapy, I am not even drawing anything I chose to draw. I let the teacher tell me exactly what to do next so that I can learn as much as possible about how to be an artist. It is a real challenge but I am really learning things. This is helping me to deal with my emotions because I am learning something new so I am distracted and feel good about myself. And it is teaching me to look at the world differently and this works very nicely with what I am learning through mindfulness. That is about spending more time with the part of yourself that observes everything. Being aware of things and accepting them. Seeing them for what they are, but not allowing myself to be carried away by anything in particular. I choose my focus, returning to my breathing. Just like deciding what elements take priority in my picture, I am the artist. The best thing is that my emotions aren't going away. Pain is still pain, sadness is still sadness.. but there is more room for me to feel everything and know what it is. It doesn't feel like dying anymore when I am in this way of being.
@Kuma0187
Oh this challemge sounds so good, and to be learning things is great. Good for you! And you're enjoying it and as you say it fits with mindfulness..
".. observe everything.Being aware of things and accepting them. Seeing them for what they are, but not alllowing myself to be carried away by anything in particular. I choose my focus, returning to my breathing." Think this describes so well how we can be aware of our feelings,, glance at them and accept them, and then they will pass. So different to avoiding or resisting.Thank you for sharing this with us. x
@rozie
