Traumatic Experiences Community Daily Check-in Tuesday 26th June 2018

Hello to you all!

Here's hoping you're getting creative and designing a poster for PTSD Awareness Day on 27 June .. and that's tomorrow. So there's still time! They can be posted on PTSD Awareness Poster Events 22nd-27th June. Its one way among many of raising awareness here and among your wider community..Reading in a local paper recently of a firefighter who is doing a walk to encourage "first responders in the community to be proactive in seeking professional help for any work related mental illness." And no doubt there will be events in many places, maybe where you are too.

Interestingly this condition appeared as early a s1952 when it was described in DSM -1 as a 'Gross Stress Reaction' defined as being "a normal personality using established patterns of reaction to deal with overwhelming fear." It was seen as occuring both in wartime and domestic traumas. It later appeared in DSM-111 as Post Traumatic Stress Disorder,.and this was in part from the experience of soldiers in the Vietnam War. And as we know now more likely to be diagnosed, with variation in treatments, and therapists who specailise in trauma.

Then wondering what your experience is of others' awareness of what PTSD is and how this impacts on you. What would you like them to be aware of?

How is your day going? If you were raising awareness about PTSD what would be most important to you? Or pop in to say hi! Love to hear from you. This is your space and a safe place. x

@KLM3278

May I ask you a question? I thought of you because I know you believe in God, so I figure you may have some insight. But anyone else who has a view, please chip in.

So, Ive just been to a bible group, and we talked about baptism. One of the verses we looked at was in Acts (I think). Something about if the wife believes in God the husband shouldnt divorce her as he is redeemed by her faith, and vice versa, and also any child of theirs. But if they divorce, the child is similarly faithless. Something like that. Anyway, this really hurt me, as I felt it was saying a child in a Christian household is of greater value than a child in a non Christian household, and it seemed to me the group agreed with this notion. As if a child in a non Christian house is a second class citizen.

Am I getting this wrapped round my neck, or is this Christianity? I thought we were all equal, and this has really got to me that a child should be judged in the eyes of God based on their parents faith, or lack of it.

@BestIcanbe Hi, I am no longer christian, but I was never taught anything about the parents faith mattering at all. God does not judge you based on anyone but yourself. If you have faith then that is what matters, if you are a good person that is what matters. Everyone is equal, everyone has the same value in god's eyes. You are worth just as much as anyone else. heart

@BestIcanbe

Here is the rest of what I wanted to share - ❤️ God tells us very clearly that a man should treat his wife like Jesus treats the church. The bride groom! Trust me, Jesus (God) treated woman in the Bible with respect and proper caring!! Jesus never said men are more or better! I literally had this exact conversation with my counsleor! He and I talked a lot about how much God loves me, you, all woman! Everyone! Woman are not "less" than! We are cherished by God! We are loved! You are loved! Trauma and abuse, this is what makes us doubt God's love. Check out "Gotquestions.org" and you can literally read alot about so many things!!!! It is a source you can trust! I hope I have helped you!! ❤️❤️❤️

@KLM3278

Thank you, I knew you would help make it clearer.

I wish I had your faith. I cant seem to stop questioning. I feel the bible fits if youre ‘normal. Not that I like that word. But its like a middle class, straight handbook. Im not knocking it, Ive found strength in my faith before, but recently it hurts me.

How do you think the bible perceives same sex relationships? And same sex marriage? I feel isolated from the church. Not quite acceptable. Sidelined.

And please, no pressure if you dont want to answer. I appreciate what youve already answered.

@BestIcanbe

Here is a safe hug if you want one ❤️

I think it's important to focus on God's love for everyone and remember that there are many things we do that grieve God's heart, and this is due to His love for us. He wants us to be with Him! There are many sins listed you know. So there are NO worse sins. God is Holy and His love is truthful. I'm not gay. But I have many friends who are. And what they struggle with is no different then what other people struggle with. Which means we all are in this world together and God's grace and love extends to everyone! ❤️ We all need Him!! No one is morally superior. God says in the Bible, Do not lie. Do not steal. Who hasn't done those things right? The good new, Jesus will forgive anything and everyone! ❤️ When it comes to physical things *TRIGGER WARNING* God says all sex outside of marriage is wrong. Lots of times people point out homosexuality, as the greatest sin. The truth is God doesn't hate a gay person. No! God is LOVE!! He wants to forgive anyone who talks to Him (prays) and confesses that they need Him!

KLM3278 June 27th, 2018

@BestIcanbe

(Part 2) Please check out "Gotquestions.org" and it has so much to share about what the Bible says about homosexuality. It helped me understand the why about things. As for church, or Christian people, REAL Christ followers, REAL churches will not hate anyone who is gay. There may not be agreement but there is love and acceptance. ❤️ I have a lot of gay friends and we accept each other but tthey know I don't agree with them. Just like my straight friends who do physical things outside of marriage, they know I accept them but do not agree with them. I also want to add that when bad things happen to us, it is NOT our faults!! Sometimes those real bad things have hurt us deeply. My counselor and I talk a lot about this. For me, my pain and past and trauma abuse has made me terrified of men and of anything physical. Other people pains makes them run to physical stuff. But the amazing truth is Jesus walks this healing journey with us! He did NOT want those hurts to happen to us. He hears you and loves you!! You ARE always accepted and His love for you is free. You canmot earn His love. It's already been given❤️

@BestIcanbe

(Part Three)

I really hope I have helped you a little. I think the fact you even are asking these questions with such humility and gentleness, means you have a faith. And the Bible says, it only takes faith as tiny as a mustard seed - because it's Jesus who calls us to Himself. ❤️❤️❤️❤️ I'll be praying for you my friend!!! I think you're so amazing & so does God ❤️

@BestIcanbe

Hi Best. ❤️ Please believe when I tell you that God loves EVERYONE! God especially loves ALL children!!! The Bible, God, actually has a lot to say to people who hurt a child! I wasn't in your group, not exactly sure what you read, etc. But I can promise you that God does not love some children more or less. God does not love some adults more or less. God IS love! Yes, sin is real. Yes, sin seperated us from God. But God sent us Jesus! Jesus' death and resurrection, His blood, is what takes our sins away. We believe in Jesus and trust in Him and ask for forgiveness- then we are connected back to our savior! John 3:16 "For God so loved the world that He gave His one and only Son, that whoever believes in Him, will not perish, but have everlasting life." This is the solid rock of Christianity! It's called Grace. We do nothing! It's all about what God has done for us!!! ❤️❤️❤️

Does God like divorce. No. But God does NOT like abuse!!! In the Bible, it says a person can get divorced if abuse is happening and if someone commits adultery. Have you heard of amazing website called "Gotquestions.org"? It's a great resource.

Hi Rozie

My day has been ok, everything has gone smoothly, nothing bad has happened, but I feel so awful. I feel like I am drowning. I really need a hug.

I want people to know that telling me to calm down does not fix anything. That when I ask someone to stop something it is because I feel like I am about to break down, I am not trying to ruin their fun, I am trying to protect us.

Love and hugs heart

@rozie thank you Rozie.

I have not written for a while as been very ashamed of not coping. That took over all my energy just to say it and admit i was denying myself water to hurt more. I told therapist who thinks it may be another form of self harm or self hate or sabotaging my body yet again.

I am trying to change and work has not been as trigerring, so easier this week. Temperature been high though so probably still dehydrated as walking alot.

Hubby and I been talking about trying again too. If i can face the clinic at least. He knows i struggle with guilt and grief and ptsd from the traumatic loss last year. But if we dont try i lose that hope too and more grief i cannot handle. We will talk to them about surrogacy too, so have that option if my self hate becomes dangerous .

I have major issues with blaming myself and past depression and borderline has flared badly. I push away on here and irl as feel i will lose you all too. Its what happens always so just accept it and isolate. We lost so many people in the last year that i cant face more dying or leaving us. I know i cant stop it.

Im sorry for everyones struggles and trauma and am so very proud of the fight you put up against stigma and your own demons.

Thank you for this safe space to say things im afraid to voice even to myself. Safe hugs

I decided to get my paints out today and I did some paintings. I saw about the poster event and I planned on making a poster, but it turned out to be more of just inspirational paintings. I really like the background on this first one.

Also, to answer about the question of lack of understanding about PTSD, I've been having a huge issue with that in my life lately, I'm actually starting to think I may have been misdiagnosed since C-PTSD and BPD can look so alike, but when I've read about the symptoms they present differently in C-PTSD than in BPD, and the overlapping ones are more like the C-PTSD presentation than the BPD one. This is hard for me because I go into panic attacks when my PTSD get triggered, but lately I've been treated poorly by professionals especially because they think I'm acting out and being manipulative because of the BPD diagnosis where in reality I'm just panicking to the point that the only thing I know how to do in that moment is rock back and forth or lay down on the floor in the fetal position crying.

yep! I paint to help me cope with my life stressors and my trauma. Actually did you know that art allows you to process things using both parts of your brain? Its sort of like the same idea behind EMDR. It is when I started painting more that I started to process the stuff I never dealt with.
