Hello lovely trauma family

"Life isn't about waiting for the storm to pass.... Its about learning to dance in the rain."

And yes the theme for today is "let's dance" Down through time, societies have used dance to express feelings and help people heal. In her book "How Dance Helped Me Heal Depression, Anxiety and PTSD." Michele Rosenthal describes how her life was being controlled by PTSD symptoms, and that attempts at recovery had left her with more fear and anguish than healing.Then she heard a small voice saying ..."you need to feel the opposite of all this pain. Joy.. you need to find joy." And how did she do this.. By joining a dance class where she found she had to stay present and connect with and trust herself and others as she listened to the music and learned the steps. And what's more she found she was having fun! it was life changing and when she resumed recovery, it was successful. She says that "dancing continues to set my soul free."

The basic body language of dance can bring out the unutterable... the mind-body emotional connection is inherent in the movement. Dance can unlock frozen images stored in the muscles and tissues, and give access to these accumulated stored memories and release them. And research and studies have supported the effectiveness of dance and movement. A 2007 study at the University of Heidelberg, Germany by Dr Sabine Koch studied a single dance intervention for patients with depression. One group were given just exercise(with the same heart rate), the second group just music (with the same music) and the third group dance (music and movement) The patients who underwent the dance intervention benefited most.

Dance Movement Therapy (DMT) is a psychotherapeuticuse of movement and dance,and has been demonstrated as being beneficial for physical and mental health. Its provides for emotional, cognitive, physical and social integration. Marian Chase,a pioneer in DMT in the 1940's, found that her patients with PTSD were able to use dance therapy as a way of communication that led to a decrease in the tension held in the body. The basis is that motion and emotion are interconnected, and that through movement that which is conscious and unconsconious is expressed, and a therapist is able to work with this.

Moving regularly is an investment in body, mind and soul. So why not dance. One of my friends, on her own at home, puts on her favourite music and dances, and loves it. All you need is some music and a little space.Then dance your heart out. Ticks a lot of boxes!

How is your day going? How do you enjoy dancing? Or pop in to say hi! You are welcome here.This is your space and a safe place. x

@singercrystalspirit Good to hear 😃

It... goes.

Today has been a series of technical difficulties. ISP suspended my internet account for non payment, even though payments were up to date in full. Had to deal with the billing dept first thing this AM after spending a good 45 minutes troubleshooting.

Fortunately the matter was resolved without much effort, apart from me having to endure the awful hold music.

And whatever the tech team did to the site background (✌🏾decorations✌🏾🙄) is crashing my browser whenever I try to access via mobile web. I'm now on the app, trying not to be too too grumpy (because I truly hate the app -- it won't even load my notifications, among other bugs and structural limitations). So this is a good opportunity to practice my patience and acceptance skills. 😂

hey rozie! lovely to see you today.

i used to dance in my past but didnt do it anymore since i was 10 years old smiley at that point i havent had the traumatic event happened yet so i dont know if it would have helped me later on.

My day is going pretty good- had my last exam today yay! and it went amazing. it was in front of the whole class and a verbal exam, so i had to stand in front of 26 people for 45 minutes and was pretty nervous and sweaty but with time i got more calm and it was actually fun!

Hope youre having a lovely day!

Wow, well done with your last exam.. its not easy to do this, but sounds like as you became calm you were able to be yourself and find it was fun too. Hoping you can have a good holiday now! x

Hi Rozie

I used to love dancing, I had lessons and did alright but the others children were not nice so I quit. I miss dancing. I do still dance at home when no one is around, but its not the same. Maybe I should look into starting again.

I am struggling to cope at the moment. Family is stressful. And they don't know how much pain they have caused me. How much they still cause.

Love and hugs heart

@FloweringBunny

Yes maybe you'll get to start dancing again!

I can understand how hard it is for you in your family where there has been hurt and still is pain and hurt. Wondering what helps you to look after yourself.. do you hav ryour own space to go to, or are able to have time away from the stress. Sometimes we have to create a bit of distance and put in some clear boundaries. Not easy to do in our families I know.

Love and hugs to you too. x
