Traumatic Experiences Community Daily Check-in Tuesday 6th March 2018

Hello lovely 'trauma family"

Have you stood on a small bridge, leaned over the rails, and watched the water beneath flow, maybe its bubbling along, or rushing past, or moving slowly and gently. And listened to the sounds too. Or maybe you remember playing "pooh"sticks.Selecting your stick, tossing it into the water on the word 'go' and then rushing to the other side to see whose stick is winning. All dependent on the flow of the water.

."Water is the softest of all things.,yet it is also the most powerful. The ocean patiently allows all things to flow into it. It is always flexible. The Tao is not about grasping, but allowing, like the water." Wayne Dyer.

How often do we want to resist or avoid. Some of us learned to do this as children when we switched off from our feelings. This protected us from experiencing overwhelming psychological pain. And for many emotional numbness has been a coping mechanism which protected us from the pain that was too much. But the cost is high on health and welbeing and its exhausting... so there comes a day of awakening, a crisis or a breakdown that determines there must be a different path.Maybe there is a diagnosis of PTSD and we are thrust in territory that is unfamiliar. We may remember grasping at straws as we try to find new ways of coping, to make this happen, ..and now we are beginning to feel these emotions it seems to be overwhelming... so maybe its easier to retreat.

Or is it about allowing, like the water. Allowing the feelings... accepting them.Noticing what you are feeling, maybe naming it, sitting with it (even if its a bit uncomfortable) and then releasing it. And knowing that feelings will pass. Practising mindfulness and staying present. Having a safe place to be, with blankets and soft toys, music (whatever is comforting) becuse comfort and self soothing is needed too.And take a break.. if its getting too much and becoming overwhelming....pause.... allow yourself to go and do something that you enjoy. Flowing with what is.. its ok to be just how you are at this moment

How is your day going? Have you noticed what happens when you allow, like the water? Or pop in to say hi! Love to hear from you. This is your space and a safe place............ Love from rozie. x

@BeeLeigh Received word this afternoon that someone close to me had passed away suddenly yesterday. Kind of in shock and at a loss for words.

@rozie In the city I was born in there is a bridge, I kind of was always scared to go over it because it was made of wood and moved when people walked on it. The sea was under it and it turned in the middle to let the boats in and out. You just made me think of it. I knew it would not break but it was still scary. I am confused with my emotions not sure what they are. Thinking of the bridge made me a little homesick though but that is not a bad thing. Hope you are ok.

Hello rozie,

I had a down day. Been mostly on the bed and instead of getting things done I've just fallen asleep. I guess it was a day of avoidance. Avoidance of work, people, places, life.

I've avoided stressors like caffeine or interacting with people, although those might have helped with productivity.

The times that I've let the feelings be felt, it had ended with pretty extreme suicidal thoughts. I don't really know where my body will go though and what they'll do with my body if I do leave. Since I can't control that i don't really want to go this way. Thus why I've used self harm to cut through that train of thought. There are too many scars now and it doesn't look nice. I've used bio - oil on the scars but so far its just a placebo effect. Perhaps enough time has passed or maybe being a part of a community again or having people who stay or people give and not expect to receive have helped me jumped onto the next stage and the thoughts of why/how could they and of justice aren't the sole things on my mind anymore.

I don't want to think of those times anymore. I don't think I will, unless my triggers more often happen when I don't get enough sleep, when I have work to do, when I'm around people who may happen to say certain things, or just anything that uses my energy. I don't know.

I just want to get things done so I can belong on the path of building a career towards success again. So people will be coming to me asking for advice, rather than me wanting to avoid people so I don't have to explain the gaps.

There are so many hours in a day. I could accomplish so much, but so often I can't make decisions on my own. Maybe I make bad decisions, but I don't want to believe that. I believe I was hurt because I was optimistic about peoples' characters, not because I made bad decisions.

@rozie HI rozie, it's Teresa and now I'm checking in!

Today I'm feeling a bit tired of everything just because this is a week without contraceptive pills I've been taking to alleviate my PMS symtpoms. Actually I don't want to think about almost everything on-going around me right now. It's my authentic feeling of now. But I enjoy writing this to you, and I think I allow myself to "feel" in this way just for now. I love water also and water is almost always soothing, like hot shower and swimming pool.

Hope everyone would have a great time.
