Triggers

I have what seems like a lot of triggers... it seems daily something happens that brings me back to my childhood trauma. It's a constant internal battle with do I talk about my trauma, do I keep it to myself..
I tend to keep it to myself because I don't want to bring anyone else down, and when I do bring it up I feel guilty. I also have a professional job where it would be really wrong to put my problems onto my patients... Although my trauma does give me a lot of room for empathy and understanding for others..
I would love to move on, but I don't think I ever will, my sister has cut our mother out of her life entirely in an attempt to lose the triggers. I just don't see her as all bad so I can't bring myself to do it..
If anyone is still reading this thank you, it's probably rambly but even if 1 person understands and can relate I am grateful. If anyone has found a way to live without constant anxiety tips are welcome.

Thank you kindly.

@lyse91

I get exactly what you are talking about... keeping the trauma to yourself because of assuming that others don't want to deal with it. I have the same issue going on here.

It seems like you haven't managed yet to integrate that trauma into your experience in a positive, constructive way. See... it is the traumas and all the bad stuff that actually enable us to grow. No one has achieved any significant growth by living a happy life without any problems and challenges.

I really encourage you to perhaps see a therapist in order to work through your trauma in a way that this memory won't bother you anymore as much. There are listeners out here as well and you are welcome to pm me, but as you probably know, we are not professionals and I really think that you would highly benefit from talking to someone who is well edjucated on trauma.

Sending you lots of hugs and support ❤️

@lyse91 I can relate to your post.. I’ve also experienced childhood trauma involving my mother. I decided to not communicate with her or contact her to avoid triggers. But for me since my sibling has a close relationship, I get triggered around them. I’m still learning how to cope myself. But I think that it is okay to share your thoughts and feelings, if you are comfortable. Having a good support group with friends or family can be helpful too. I’ve only recently used this app, but hopefully you find support and kindness through others’ posts. For anxiety, deep breathing may be helpful or healthy distractions. I find that talking with a professional helps when I struggle to cope, too. I’m sorry you experienced the trauma. Wishing you a peaceful, healing journey

I also have a lot of trauma and some triggers also. It is incredibly difficult to know when to open up, who will be receptive, etc. I also want to echo what someone else said about the trauma being a chance to grow and learn. But, just because you aren't in that place now, doesn't mean there's anything wrong with the speed at which you are dealing with it. Mine has always been a chance to learn about myself and I have channeled it into my writing, and without it I don't know if I would have developed the emotional intelligence or writing ability that I have. Trauma is very much like grief. In a lot of ways, its alike. Trauma and grief both involve a mourning of a loss of some sort. For me, my childhood Trauma also involves me mourning the loss of my childhood, like grief is the mourning of the loss of someone. And there is no time limit to grief, there is no "expected way" or specific time to spend in each phase.

I just wanted to let you know that you are doing amazing in your recovery. You may be overwhelmed at times, but you keep fighting and working, and that's so amazing.

If you would like to chat with me, im always around.

I did read and i wanted you to know that i understand how you feel. I am in a constant battle with who i can trust to talk about my experience with.

I know that if i tell the wrong person or people then it will literally ruin my life so i have to keep it a secret from most everyone in my life and family for normality's sake.

I understand how you feel when you say you can't cut out your mother from your life. My sister has also cut contact with our mother to avoid her triggers but i can't bring myself to do it because of our little brother (I'm 14 years older than him) and because I'm just so used to her now.

I just want you to know that you're not alone and one day you will find the right person and setting to share your story. It will get better just don't give up yet. You are so strong!

I grow up getting bullied and troubled for being “too black”. I use to heard that I’m ugly and anything that black is not good. Makes me constantly seek validation for people because I believe I’m not good enough. I have trust issues and I’m insecure in all my relationships.
