Am I doing the right thing?

Ive finally got the courage to leave my boyfriend. I made a report of domestic violence against him. But pressing charges means he will lose his job and contact with his kids. He's in court in a few weeks. He's constantly ringing and texting me to drop the charges. Even though his bail conditions forbid him to contact me. I don't know if I'm doing the right thing anymore. He says I'll destroy his life. what should I do?

@Helpless31

I see this in a different way. You're not the one doing things to him. You're simply reporting what happened. He did the negative things to you and himself. He's playing the victim but in reality he's just facing consequences due to his own poor choices.

@Helpless31 What made you turn him in in the first place? I am in an emotionally/mentally abusive marriage and if I had the courage to stand up to him for once, I would. I think you made a good decision. Think about what trouble your boyfriend has caused you emotionally and mentally? Has he hurt you really bad physically? Before I met my now husband, I was a carefree, happy, confident, and fun person. After 6 years being with him, I have deteriorated to a sad, self conscious, depressed, and unhappy person. Abuse of any form is not right and I think you shouldn't feel guilty or sad for him.

The most important thing is that your no longer with him. Your not... so mission accomplished in that area

As to whether or not to press charges- I would say both your motives and severity of what he did, should be weighed. Are you seeking Justice, or Vengence?

The consequences for him will be Severe (loss of job, legal penalties, etc) Does what he did warrant that? While any domestic violence is wrong- there is a difference between a guy who Batters his partner, and one who shoved his GF during a heated argument, that BOTH partners were involved in

It's your decision... Look at the big picture, weigh the facts, and do what you think is right
