@ashleyynicole
Dear Ashley:
My name is Marcelo, I am a Forum Supporter in this Forum.
I am very sorry to know you have been emotionally abused by your parents as a child.
Unfortunately, this is a very common condition worldwide.
There are millions of psychologically disturbed people in the world. Many become parents. Their children might suffer abuse as a result.
As you tell, the effects of early childhood traumas will perdure into adulthood, and can have intense emotional effects. But you will improve and get better as you advance in a healing path, putting effrt into it, an also by bonding with a community of caring people, like this ome at 7 Cups.
We could discuss Therapy in a further conversation, as well.
Regarding your request for resources, I have assembled those at hand, that I can make available immediately to you.
As a starter, I recommend you this article that you might find useful: https://yourholisticpsychologist.com/what-is-reparenting-and-how-to-begin/
I hope these resources are useful to you as a starting point:
7 CUPS
Within 7 Cups you will also find valuable resources.
First, every day take time to do the exercises in the “My Growth Path” section of your main page at 7 Cups. Find a quiet time, and focus on the exercises without distractions. Do as many exercises as you can, slowly, in a relaxed and focused way. If you feel tense and distracted, stop, and continue the following day.
1-to-1 CHAT WITH A LISTENER
Find a Listener that is a good fit for you. Go to the menu “Chat” – “ Browse Listeners” and click “More Filters”. Click the little boxes for "Verified Listeners" and "Long Term Support". Select "Show Listeners Only"
Make different searches.. For example, make one with Topic “Depression” and another with Topic “PTSD/Trauma” .
If you sort by "Cheers", the list will show the most experienced Listeners first. Read the Listener profiles and, if one seems to be someone you will be comfortable with, and that could help you, send a brief message to this Listener explaining your needs and asking how often and for how long they could chat with you. You can write this "presentation" in a document and "copy-paste" to different listeners.
Be aware of the country of each Listener, and if possible, avoid those that are far from your timezone. That is, countries or areas that are far to the east or west from where you are. It would be difficult to arrange times for chatting with those.
Wait for their answers, and arrange to chat with the ones you feel more comfortable with. Finally, select the one that seems the best fit for you.
Chat as frequently and for as long as possible with your Listener.

Keep in touch,
Marcelo,
I also was abused as a child by my parents. It felt suffocating, terrifying, and I felt like I was trapped. I live alone now but I can't get those memories out of my head. I feel like a part of me is still stuck in the past. A part of me is still that scared child.
