Flashback about my dad

I wanted to check in and talk about another flashback that happened when I was very young. Basically, I grew up in a dysfunctional family. Both of my parents had a lot of anger about things. My dad would especially let his anger out while he was driving. If he was stressed out, while driving, he would get lose is temper or say nasty things.

When I was still in an only child, my parents and I were out driving when I heard my mom give off a very excited yet gentle gasp. He happened to get mad at her for that. It turns out there were fireworks. When I looked, there were fireworks which I got very excited about. When I shouted "Look fireworks," my dad got nasty with me. "I am going to put a band-aid on your mouth. As a child, I felt embarassed and as if I did something wrong. However, I now realize that while he did was domestic and child abuse.

@Summershy

Hi !

I am sorry for all those sad childhood episodes.

It's very unfortunate that people with serious emotional problems have children, and then their kids, who had the bad luck to be born in such a dysfunctional "family", suffer a lot for that.

If you have severe Flashback episodes, you should apply grounding techniques to bring you to the present. (like those described HERE ).

If you feel that your current mental health has been compromised by those traumatic events, I would suggest that you find a good therapist through trusted sources, like your doctor, friends, post-graduate psychology institutions, etc, and you start doing Therapy.,

Besides, continue posting in this Community any feelings or thoughts you might want to share, as this is a very healing practice in itself, and you can get feedback from fellow Members.

Keep in touch.

I wish you all the best !

Marcelo

My family members play the typical roles of a dysfunctional family. In my case, I played several roles

1. The scapegoat -

2. The truth teller - My family members called me "The tattle tale," the "Trouble-maker,

3. The black sheep for that reason and because I have an mild disability that no one understands next to be ashamed of it.
