Possibly in an emotionally abusive relationship? Need un-biased opinions!
Hey guys firstly some context about me so you can understand why im having trouble on what some of you may consider simple solutions.
Im 23 Years old and have been in this relationship for 8 months, although i dont suffer from (diagnosed) low self esteem i do have a history of Depression in my family that have formed noticeable habbits that even i cant deny. (just enough to make me self doubt constantly and challenge my own rational)
My issues started about a month into this relationship, everything was great in the honeymoon stage. However i did notice another male "best friend" in her life that would be consistently strange throughout the relationship.
For about 2 weeks I observed her friend sending her messages like "where are you sleeping tonight" and "wanna come hang out with me tomorrow when your free"... so i let it slide for a while and didnt pry into her responses or her private messages.. I did tell her that him sending these messages made me very uncomfortable and she managed to get him to tone it down.
Everything was great for a while until the day of her birthday, naturally i helped her parents set up her party in the morningfor her friends.. However she decided that they would go out underpants shopping together for him (they are neighbors)..
(She confirmed with me before all this that although they had not dated she had slept with him for more then 5 months full time without sexual interaction *so she claims*)
I let this action slide for about a month when i had a little bit of a breakdown about it and again told her how uncomfortable they made me feel (this was not the first instance of him attempting to disclude me from their activities).
She was sympathetic and understanding and promised me they would tone down activities such as that (i always said she was welcome to hang out with him in public places and with me present for group activities)
They continued to text on a pretty much full time basis whenever she wasnt texting me, and i was okay with this until one time after we where intimate she immediately grabbed her phone and started texting him. (im not sure why but this outraged me and now just thinking about him made me sick to my stomach)
I confronted her about that and she said i was being overly possesive and strange on he subject and that she didn't know what i thought was going on.
After about a month she decided that she didnt want to be in this relationship anymore and broke up with me over text (to which i replied calmly and respectfully)
She then contacted me that night crying about how she had made the worst decision of her life and she realizes what she had done wrong and couldntsleep/eat without me.
- So i went back with her and gave her another chance.. everything was great until another month had passed and now she was being a little more secretive about her actions while i was on night shift.
She decided that while i was at work she would pop over next door and see him and just hang out with him whenever, one on one in his room.. with his family or whatever she wanted to do while i was at work. (i was pensive and tried to set barriers in the relationship, i askedher to only spend time with him in group settings with his/her family and not one on one time as it made me feel very uncomfortable at this stage)
The next week they decided to go jogging together and by this stage i had lost my calm, i told her i had enough and that i didnt want to be with her anymore. I said i was disgusted with her lack feelings toward my insecurities in our relationship and we broke up.
roughly two weeks after the break up i reached out to her and once again she chased me back and said she was done with him, and ready to devote her time to me and her other friends. I accepted her apology and said i would give her another chance... (for the second time)
This went well, she had cut all communication with him and his attempts to guilt trip her into talking with him went un-noticed.
This however seemed to leave her with a different opinion on our relationship, now she was telling me what to do more then ever and who i could speak with (i put a lot of understanding into her concerns and any girls who where just friends with me that made her feel uncomfortable where cut from my life without hesitation)
it started to get "strange"when we took up fishing together and after a while i mentioned to her that i might try to go fishing with my father one day while she is at work to which she replied (No he didn't even try to take you fishing so you cant go together now).. i thought she was joking but she had a blank stare on her face and seemed very angry that i would suggest this.
The second instance was at breakfast when she snatched the cereal out of my hand and said she didnt want me to eat before she has eaten because im boring when im not paying attention to her.
A few more things i noticed where: she mentioned to me that when i talk to any other female it makes her incredibly jealous and when i dont reply to her texts immediatly she assumes the worst and gets very offended.
She also told me that i show too much affection and it pisses her off when i show affection in public.. however i had noticed she groped me in public and jumped all over me whenever she wanted to.
The last straw came when she started putting me down with sarcastic comments and correcting everything said.. making me feel worthless and then cried on my shoulder that same week and said she misses talking to her neighbor.
I broke up with her about a week after that and we have been seperate for about a month now. Recently i allowed her back into my life and i can already see she is making advances toward me, and telling me how she completly cut ties once more with her neighbor.
My problem is now, is that i still love this girl and for some reasons i am finding myself accepting her advances.. i am left with a few choices now, do i get back with her and give her another chance.. do i tell her im sorry but i need to move on..
what i would like is some opinions about the above mentioned incidents.. because i dont know i still feel like im the crazy one, like im over reacting to that stuff and that im the bad guy for breaking her heart!
Please help meim really losing my mind with this one..
It sounds to me like you and your girlfriend or ex girlfriend or whatever you want to call it have a control problem. You both want to be in control of eachother, and sheclearly wants to have best of both worlds in regards to her neighbour, she wants both of you in her life which is understandable, however, personally I wouldn't be happy with my partner texting someone else all day long. Friends meet up for coffee, and text occasionally asking how eachother are doing, they go places together as groups and are respectful of eachothers partners. Considering you have gone a month without her, perhaps it is best that you move on, but if in your heart you feel you should be together then try again one last time. But a [Edited], and sometimes you need to be the stronger person. Do what you think is right, but some of the stuff i read that she tried to control was crazyyy. A man needs his damn cereal!
Hope I helped a little :)
thanks for taking the time to read my short story, it was a little bit of a mind freak to read that part about both of us fighting for control. At first i couldn't admit it but i think you are completelycorrect which is a little scary, i dont want to be that person.. I never used to be, i feel because i have no trust at this point i want to control her to do what i feel is "right"... I don't like that thinking i thinks its time for me to move on and learn.
