The nightmares

I am a 23 year old woman. I have been out of a relationship that started when I was 15 and ended when I was 22. I have been out of this relationship for a tiny bit over a year now and I'm still struggling with the nightmares. I am out of it and found someone amazing and I even have a baby on the way but I just can't shake the nightmares. I feel so worthless and hurt. I just can't wrap my head around the fact that I am an adult, so why can't I just forget about it. That guy ruined me and I'm trying to get back up in my life but it just seems that I keep getting knocked back down all at my own fault.

I'm sorry to hear that you're still experiencing nightmares and struggling to move past the trauma from your past relationship. It's understandable that it can be difficult to fully recover from the impact of an abusive relationship, especially when it lasted for such a long time.

It's important to remember that healing is a process, and that it's okay to take the time and space you need to work through the pain and trauma that you've experienced. It's also important to recognize that it's not your fault that you're still struggling with these memories and feelings. It can take a lot of time, patience, and self-compassion to fully recover from trauma, and it's important to be gentle with yourself along the way.

It's great to hear that you've found someone amazing and are starting a family. Remember that you deserve love and happiness, and that you are worthy of a healthy and safe relationship. If you haven't already, it may be helpful to seek out support from a therapist or counsellor who specializes in trauma and abuse recovery. They can provide you with tools and techniques to help you manage your nightmares and process the trauma in a safe and healthy way.

Remember that you're not alone in this, and that it's okay to reach out for help when you need it ❤️

It's not possible to add much to the above excellent info from Mya. The only thing that may be s challenge is finding someone good and qualified to work with PTSD. You would think with the epidemic of PTSD in veterans there should be s good system, while it's not. Some therapists are trying hard the best they do, but end up retraumatizing victims by asking them to write or talk about trauma. Look up YouTube videos on use of propranolol in PTSD. It's hard to find anyone doing this, but you can do it DIY with some resurcefulness.
