Then vs Now
Heya everyone! I know I havent been very active in the forums lately but I recently feel back in love with the forums! So today I have a fun idea for you guys. As you may or may not know, showing your progress through your mental health or even physical health struggles can be very beneficial and therapeutic. You may think this like I am never gonna get better and I have never been worse. While one of these things may be true reflecting on the past and showing yourself how far youve come is super important and a really proud moment! Even if you havent come far it may give you hope to see others struggling with trauma how they have changed and progressed.
So heres how you can be a part!
First, write a poem, story, song or just even a forum post comparing the beginning you to the now you.
Second, if you wanna share, (not needed you can just let me know you did it and what you thought) type it out and post it in this forum!
Thats it! I hope you are having a marvelous day and I cant wait to see youre Then vs.Nows!
Nice idea. I'll just write a comparison for now. It will be a rap song ahahahahahah
[cool intro]
THEN
I was depressed, struggled with eating
Wondered if life was worth to be living
Where my boundaries stood I didn't know indeed
I just strived to do anything everyone might need
I hurt myself, believing I was evil
Hope being small like the eye of a needle
[chorus? LOL I'll work on that]
NOW
I'm not depressed
Not anymore
Just anxiety's left
To keep me indoor
2 full meals I eat every day
Breakfast's an optional,
but hey, it's ok
Give me a break y'all
I forgive myself
I practice yoga
I've got candles on my shelf
I reach to others
And I'm slowly starting
To pull myself together
Time is passing
And eventually I'll get better
[chorus]
[cool ending]
Yaaaaaaaay! 😂 I'm ready for the stage

This story is called "Trapped Within."
There once was a girl who had big dreams, creating worlds in her imagination. So powerful was her gift, that she could get lost staring at a desk or wall. She was so innocent and cheerful, ready to befriend anybody. There was no limit. Literally everything was possible to her. EVERYTHING. However, soon she started noticing that her gifts also came with a curse.
No one could understand her. Everyone thought this girl was weird. You see, while the initial childhood mindsets of "everything is possible" and "believe in yourself and it will come true" slowly died in others, this little girl still kept it alive.
"Why would I want to abandon my dreams?" she thought.
As a result, she was the weird one. Not in a bullying kind of way, but in a completely-forget-your-existence way. No one knew what she talked about, valued her input or acknowledged her existence. The whole class underestimated her. Because she perceived this, the girls mind started to change slowly. She thought the reason nobody appreciated her was because she wasn't perfect and unworthy. This girl started to be a perfectionist in an unhealthy way. She didn't see the value in herself. She started suppressing emotions, namely the "bad" ones.
Over the years, her perfectionist habits, little self-worth and suppressed emotions built up. This lead to anger, depression and an acute fear for social interaction. She lacked trust in anybody, including herself. She let her pain, fears and loneliness almost destroy her life.
The only thing that kept her going was her dream. Despite all the negativity, she never lost touch with her inner child. She held on to the dream tightly, even if she doubted it herself. That's all she had left to live for. If she let it go, life would be meaningless.
All that changed when she meat the love of her life. He inspired her to make change.
She thought to herself, "How come he seems happier when he clearly had a harder life than me?"
That's when she decided to make a change. She learned how beliefs and attitudes create reality. She went back to her past to see that nothing bad happened at all. She had an easy life. It was all in her head. If she would've acknowledged her emotions and talked to someone about it, than none of this would've happened. Powerful enlightenment reached her that day.
She was slowly killing herself with constant negative self-talk.
For the past 5 years, She slowly worked on herself. She also learned about business because through it all, she NEVER gave up on her dream. She's currently pursuing it with the business knowledge she learned. She is also taking better care of herself by exercising, journaling, accepting her feelings, being more mindful about food and drink and accepting her imperfections. She's still got a long way to go though because the loneliness has never left. She still feels abandoned and misunderstood, but is ready to go out into the world and make friends, both online and offline.
Let this story be a reminder that if you change your mind, you change your life.
The End
