An old friend turned into a bad person

The title is a little meh but I didn't want to swear or be obviously political or be too long.

Last night I found out an old friend of mine had gone way far right and it's messing with me. It wasn't even a personal message, they had be noted in social media for it. I had no clue they went this way. They were so cool and a decent friend when we went to college. I was very obviously out and really trying to get myself started as a Transwoman and they were still cool with me. But now they're full right wing parroting notorious Transphobes and endorsers of political violence. They're now the kind of person I would cross the street to avoid or skip events to dodge.

And it hurts. It's poking my abandonment and trust issues. Like it validated all those feelings. If people can change that much that they'd go from friends to likely enemies without a turning point of interaction.
