Does Trigger Warning Helps you?
Originally from this post.
A study found that trigger warnings are not helpful at all. Here's the summary.
- Trigger warnings increase peoples' perceived emotional vulnerability to trauma.
- Trigger warnings increase peoples' belief that trauma survivors are vulnerable.
- Trigger warnings increase anxiety to written material perceived as harmful.
What do you personally think about this?
On a scale from 1 to 10 with 1 being really unhelpful and 10 really helpful, how would you rate trigger warning's effect on you before and after seeing the media?
@EmikoKokoro I love that you're doing research on this 😂💚
@JessHobson
Hehe thanks!
I'm just really curious about what everyone thinks about it! I probably should've posted it in the Trauma Support Community, though xD.
In my experience, trigger warning sets a lot of expectations for the media I'm going to see and a bit of anxiety, but at least I'm not profoundly shocked by it.
It depends on how people trigger warning things, if they just do a tw and move on it’s not helpful, (1/10) however saying what might be triggering eg: tw: SH is helpful for me (8/10). Most people don’t get triggered by all the common triggers so someone might see just a tw but they don’t know if it’s for any of their triggers. I also find it helpful to know exactly what is there so that I can brace myself. Like I don’t get triggered by some things as long as I am able to mentally prepare myself, and trigger warnings help do that (as long as they say what is there).
