Fearful Avoidant Attachment style rant
So I've discovered I might have a fearful Avoidant Attachment style. Though I crave intimacy and closeness, I have a fear of commitment (which I think was caused by having a terrible example of a relationship with parents). I have a fear that if I commit to someone, I'll be "tied down" or whatever, and so I prefer the idea of a "friends with benefits" type romantic relationship, just because it's less committed. I don't like this and I'd like to fix this! I find that I get anxious often and overthink a lot. I get anxious about things, things that I believe brought up some sort of trigger, then I feel this urge to run away. For example, after finding out that I might have FA, I had a thought that I should just not have friends. I felt like maybe it was wrong for me to have friends, since I might not knowingly self sabotage and hurt someone without realizing. I felt this worry that I might hurt them, so I should run away. I shook away this thought, since I felt like it could just be my FA trying to self sabotage me? Also, I'm a pretty big introvert and value my alone time a lot. I explained this to one of my friends: I told her that I was introverted and that I really liked a lot of alone time, and sometimes felt overwhelmed or uncomfortable if my alone time was invaded too much. I didn't explain it like that, but somewhat like that. I made sure to reassure her that it wasn't her, and that I loved talking to her, it was just because I was introverted. She didn't mind and respected my boundaries! Which I was glad for, but I started feeling worried. I worried maybe she felt rejected or upset by that. It really made me worried, so I asked her for reassurance, to make sure she didn't feel rejected or anything. She said she didn't mind at all, and that she was pretty much the same. Now I worry that I'm overreacting and that it's my FA making me worry about these things? I, then, felt worried that maybe she felt overwhelmed or annoyed by my asks of reassurance, since it was basically back to back, and also, due to the fact that we've only been chatting for like 3 days. I worry I'm being too overbearing? It's kinda made me afraid of being vulnerable in the future, since I don't want to make her or other friends feel annoyed or anything. So i kinda wanna keep my vulnabilty to myself? Is it normal to feel like I being too much too early on, or is it bad? The idea of being vulnerable again kinda fills me with anxiety.. I've also been thinking of practicing self-soothing and self-regulatation, which is I think a good habit to have regardless. I've been kinda shamed growing up and subconsciously shamed for having emotions, been made to feel like I was "annoying" or asking for reassurance a lot. I think that's probably why I feel so uncomfortable or insecure doing it? Advice? 🩷
