I'm trying
I recently partnered up with rainn and I'm supposed to be doing assembly campaigns for sexual assault and domestic violence victims and I'm supposed to go to other schools like high schools and do this but none of the high schools will return my emails I live in Arizona so I'm trying to do all of the high schools as much as possible and I've emailed pretty much all of them I'm supposed to tell my story and how I got past it and for some reason I can't even get a high school till even let me do the assembly because no one can pick up their emails anymore there is a high chance that girls 15 and 16 are getting sexually assaulted and 99% of the time they don't say anything because they're scared and have no one to talk to I put in my email and everything that I thought it was a good idea if I do it because I'm survivor not just that most of the time these girls don't even know what sexual assault really is and don't know that they're being sexually assaulted anyone know a school that will let me ???
It's wonderful that you're so willing to turn your own tragic experience into something that can help others. It's a monumental task, just to get school boards or other organizations to take notice such outreach efforts. I also suspect that hundreds of emails flow into school administrative offices daily, so it's easy for useful ones to go unnoticed. There may also be filters that prevent them from showing up in an inbox. For example, if an email is sent to multiple recipients, it probably goes directly to spam.
I'd imagine that RAINN may have some experience regarding how to approach schools and organizations. I think providing you with assistance, instruction and organizational backup would be necessary in order to make the progress you're seeking.
If I imagine myself taking on such a task, I think I'd be approaching county or state boards of education. I think I'd be working on getting walk-in appointments with those and other advocacy organizations.
My impression is that RAINN also gives volunteers an opportunity to share their stories in the form of interviews. There may be a "listener" function similar to what exists here. There are hotline positions as well. They also offer valuable training on how to be an effective advocate and supportive resource.
Thank you for caring. It's not easy to look past trauma enough to take an interest in helping others. It requires courage to revisit the trauma in order to nurture the empathy necessary to be an instrument of healing. Few realize that by doing that, we often find our own path to healing.
