Moving forward after traumatic experience
My school had a school shooting back in December. Theses past few weeks I’ve been trying to get by not thinking about it. I’ve been avoiding. I did allow myself to be sad for two days because I felt as if I was being dramatic to feel so sad and scared while seeing people around me that seemed fine. I get angry going on social media, seeing those that went out-of-state after high school going on with their lives as if nothing happened. I get angry going outside, seeing people in the city working and smiling and laughing as if nothing happened. As selfish as it is, my entire world has utterly changed and shifted while, for so many others, this is another byline.
Now, I start school in about two weeks. I’m scared. I don’t want to go back. I don’t really know how to “move forward”. I don’t really know how any of us are expected to be able to have classes.
I’m very lucky to be alive, and I know this. But no one really tells you how to deal with the traumatic aftermath.

I am so sorry that you had to witness such an offense. I can understand the fear and the lack of desire to go back to school. I am so sorry because I can't even imagine how they expect you to be able to focus on your work when you have experienced such. May I ask if you have talked to a counselor who can help you process this or a psychologist at the school or outside the school? Things like this are best handled by a professional. You have been Traumatized, and that is held in your body, and you need to be able to talk this out and let them help you with this.
Have you been able to talk to your parents or anyone about how you are feeling?
I am here if you need to keep talking to help. Again I am so sorry.
@amicableSkies2762 I guess the traumatic aftermath is gonna be different for each individual. Hopefully when you go back to school, they will have a meeting with all staff and students and offer a support system. Do your parents know how scared you are to go back? Have you told anyone about the impact this has had on you?? It's very sad that people are no longer safe anywhere😞 hugs you tightly ❤ we are all here for you sweetie ❤
