Trauma?
What is you guys definition of trauma? I've asked many people and I dont even know if my trauma is valid, or if I shouldn't even be upset by it

Hello!
The American Psychological Association defines trauma as emotional response to a terrible event like an accident, or natural disaster. It is the response to a deeply distressing or disturbing event that overwhelms an individual’s ability to cope, causes feelings of helplessness, diminishes their sense of self and their ability to feel a full range of emotions and experiences.
The event does not have to be to the level of physical violence to affect an individual. The symptoms can actually vary dramatically from person to person! Since it is subjective, than you are very valid in viewing your event as trauma if you feel it has impacted you in that way. Of course, it is always recommended to see a doctor though to get some professional insight! <3💛💫
Hi. I understand that trauma is an emotional response to a traumatic situation (a traumatic situation is an experience that threatened your life or your security). I found "Trauma is an emotional response to a distressing event that is life-threatening or involves the violation of one's bodily autonomy." and similar definitions in other sites of internet.
The word trauma is often used incorrectly to describe "minor inconveniences" or painful situations that are not considered trauma and that can generate confusion when you try to understand what is actual trauma and a traumatic experience and also trivializes the profound impact that genuine trauma has on individuals.
Even if you don't have trauma and didn't experience a traumatic situation, your feelings are still valid. You don't need to experience significant trauma to feel bad, but don't use that term to describe other situations that are not trauma. I hope this helps and know I am open to listen if you ever want to talk. 💞
