Am I supposed to feel like a victim or blame myself that it happened?
My mother at one time, beat me when I didn't come home for a night when I was 15. Then proceeded to take me to the principal's office and complain about my behavior. My legs and arms were bruised from being beaten with a belt buckle. She didn't know that I was left in an apartment, by what I thought was my friend, drunk and was assaulted that night. She never asked what happened to me before she beat me. I was terrified of telling her after she did it to me. And after 7 years she complains that I never tell her anything.

Wow, that sounds awful and traumatizing. You're not *supposed* to feel like anything, though. There are many ways in which people react to bad things that happened in their lives, and it's not really a question of right or wrong feelings, but of more or less helpful ones. If it's something that's still affecting you negatively (and that's quite likely and natural), there's a lot of info on this site on managing emotions, overcoming traumatic experiences etc, and/or you can always find someone to talk to if you like.
Dear one,
The last 2 posts were right on as far as helping you see that you are not to blame. I was beaten by my mother a lot until I was 16 and emotionally abused also, well into adulthood. You are not alone in going through that, but as the others said - you are a strong survivor. The very best thing I found after that was to surround myself with friends and other family who simply loved me.. and I will not tolerate arguing or violence 0r verbal put-downs in my life anymore. I pray that love will come to you too, to heal and soften the hurt. I'm sending you some hugs right now.
Sorry you had to go through those challenging experiences, all in one night. I don't feel you deserved for either of those things to happen to you. I hope that you don't blame yourself, and see yourself as being a victim of unnecessary occurrences. I'm glad you reached out here for support. I wish you a good recovery.

I am so sorry to hear you went through that... Even being hurt one time by a parent can be traumatic for anyone, especially when they won't listen. It isn't excusable for any parent to do that to their child. I hope you are doing better. Just know it is not your fault and she should never have done that.
You are a strong person
