Comforting Activities

April 26th, 2017

Coping with negative emotions after traumatic experiences can be challenging. I feel that engaging in comforting activities after these experiences can be helpful: doing your favourite exercise activities, writing and venting your thoughts out onto paper or in a document on your computer, participating in online support groups such as these, talking about your experiences with supportive people such as family members, friends and/or counsellors, therapeutic activities such as listening to mindfulness recordings / watching meditation videos found online, taking warm bubble baths, going for a walk out in a tranquil nature setting, playing with a pet, or doing leisure/relaxing activities such as arts and crafts, watching tv/movies, or playing games.

What do you do, or what can you do, to comfort yourself?

Today, right now, at 9:15 am April 26, 2017, I am in San Pedro, CA. I'm at my happy place. I came here because I've been hit hard. I lost focus on school, in who I am, in who I am in love with. I lost so much. I came here to cry and scream and just to let it all out. I love walking down the path to hit the spot no one knows about. I love feeling the breeze and the sounds of the ocean tell me that I am loved. They tell me it's all going to be okay. There are always plants and little animals around. They show me growth and livelihood. Being here relaxes me and snaps me back to where I started. I can be whatever and whoever I want when I'm here. I wish you could all see how beautiful it is.

Love J.
