Discussion: What is Your Most Helpful Coping Method? [Trauma Support]
Victims of traumatic experiences can face challenges after having gone through negative incidents. Trauma can affect one's thoughts, feelings, and actions. It can produce changes in one's life, that he or she never expected to occur. Traumatic events are often unanticipated, and are never deserved by any, in cases where they have been hurt by others, etc.
Is there any main coping method that you have found has been particularly helpful to you, after having experienced traumatic events? Please feel free to share here, with the group!
Examples: talking to supportive people, spending time with others whom you are close with, exercising, writing in a journal, relaxation activities, creating or listening to music, engaging in art-based activities, pet therapy, support groups, counselling, etc.
I accept that it is okay to feel bad about what happened to me. Even though it has been years since the trauma has occurred I am still human and my feelings valid

I think that accepting and honouring your true feelings and emotions is a good way to cope, instead of ignoring, or suppressing them. I also think that people experiencing emotions years after they have experienced the traumatic event(s) is valid, as everyone has their own timeframe for healing, and recovery, based on their own unique situation.
@StrengthFromWithin: Jogging has been my best coping mechanism so far. I just put my head phones on, blast my music and run. It helps me to stop worrying about everything and a great temporary escape from my triggers. It's like I am hitting the 'pause' button before I have to do life again. Again, life isn't too bad until the triggers and flashbacks kick in.

Im glad to hear that running acts as a helpful coping mechanism for you. Engaging in physical activity / movement after trauma, for example aerobic exercise, can be helpful to some individuals
