Ignorant Perceptions of Trauma... A huge rant (Trigger Warning)

Hey community

So I have to get this off my chest, as I find it to be one of the most irritating experiences in the world. Some people just astonish me with their ignorant beliefs about trauma and I just get to a point of disbelief. It's not a pity party and other dumb things people think. I am not usually this angry in my posts, but I had to get this nasty energy out of me. Thank you for listening diary family.

I totally agree with you and wish people in the world and 7cups would actually care about me for a change and not just themselves.

@DanaMHH hey I understand. It seems to take time to find our tribe of support. You deserve to heal, 💙 and be supported

I need to reiterate what has been set on this thread what Dana said and what I said what everyone is saying on this thread. Because I put myself out there last night I actually put my own post up and I didn't get any replies and I am trying really hard not to take it personally right now because I can't even afford to right now it's not good for my sanity and it's not good for anyone here. But I do feel the same way I really wish there was more empathy in the world and I wish people would at least pretend to care sometimes period when someone share something meaningful or when someone shares something painful that someone really feels like they need to be validated and I really get that I understand and I have to reiterate that. I think sometimes the only way we can get empathy is by experiencing what the other person is experiencing I think that's the only way otherwise it's like I could care less I've got my own little Clique I have mine everything's fine and to heck with everyone else. And I can feel pretty hurtful sometimes I know.

There's still a LOOOOOOOT of stigma with mental illness. Especially the more gnarly stuff like trauma. Have you seen the TED Talk by Keely Herron? She describes stuff in such a perfectly "human" kinda way. How there's acceptable traumas, ones that are garden variety but happen commonly. And then the ones unacceptable, things like sexual abuse and the more "uncomfortable" things that people don't usually have to experience in everyday life. I feel this applies to the realm of mental illness as well. ADD/ADHD < Depression/Anxiety. Just my observation on how people treat it. Even things you would think are so common like depression or anxiety...are still highly stigmatized.

I disassociate while I'm out a lot and I've seen people get this look like I'm some freakin' Nosferatu or something when it's happening. People have even called me retarded because of it. They just don't know what to do with it and so demonize it. It's so weird. And just plain stupid on their part for reacting so violently when I'm essentially floaty/spacing out. You'd think I was throwing poop everywhere. XD

Anyway, I hear ya. I see all these documentaries floating around about making people seem human for whatever thing they're into. MLP, orientation, whatever... all these things... but apparently trauma isn't human. X_X; In general, there needs to be more awareness about mental health! Especially trauma stuff.

couldn't agree more! For a long time I started to vent or even try to spread awareness because of the disgusting pity that people gave me. There's a fine line between compassion and pity disguised as evil and ignorance.

Is absolutly ridiculous and shouldn't be accepted in 2018.

We're all humans and we all gone through alot of crap, some just gone though more than others. Wouldn't hurt people to just listen for once and getting accurante information about it.

@Booklover95 I am actually quite shocked at the amount of replies to my rant. In 2018 it is ridiculous to see this type of reaction to people suffering, and the responses . I have often thought to myself... would someone treat a war veteran this way? Again I am not comparing myself to their situation, but I can' t imagine a completely foolish comment like snap out it to a person who has served our country and seen situations some couldn't even imagine.

couldn't have said it better :( I feel like trauma victims are so poorly treated.. is like our trauma is seen as a faking type of thing.

But I apreciate you talking about it. Makes me and many others feel less lonely on it

I just can't post on this enough. All the added posts about people trying to help us. I remember when I left a boyfriend years ago and I was seeing this psychologist and the psychologist was telling me that I needed to leave this man this boyfriend. After that he wanted to see me going to school and maybe getting a job and doing something with my life. Well I did leave the boyfriend eventually. The therapist stopped seeing me. And this is a really toxic part... My therapist lied to me about leaving town and practicing somewhere else. I know because I looked him up a year later after the boyfriend and I had broken up and the therapist was still in town and he was still seeing clients. So I took it that he just didn't want to treat me anymore because I wasn't getting over the damage of the relationship. And he must have thought I was just sitting on my butt and feeling sorry for myself when in fact it was a very real almost life-threatening struggle. To get over with this man had done to me emotionally. Completely tearing my soul apart. Then the therapist abandoning me and lying about why he left town. not only can't I stand people being ignorant and unhelpful I can't stand them lying about it and acting like coward's about it!

@helpfulHuman4993 I understand the frustration of this and dealing with unethical professionals, which just seems to delay the healing process. Congratulations on the progress you have made though, it' s not easy

Can totally relate. No-one outside of my Dad & girlfriend know I've been diagnosed with PTSD. I'm terrified about other family members finding out & how I will be treated.

I'm a human, not a wounded animal.
