Reacting to noise

Sometimes I get so tired from my triggers. I trust my boyfriend, completely, but when he is snoring next to me.. oh my.. can I be scared of that. It's completely silly, my PTSD is not even related to snoring in any way. But my breath stops every time he makes a noise. And ear plugs are not an option, because then I get very scared because I won't notice it if a situation turns dangerous. Thankfully therapy will start soon. Does anyone have advice on how to cope with this?

@SisterRaven

I think you have to wait for therapy (or sleep in a sofa).

In my case with therapy and alot of time, I managed to win against my triggers.

So you have to work on it. You have to talk about your triggers in a open way with a therapist, face it and with time fix it.

Meanwhile you just have to adjust. You say the snorring isn't related to your PTSD, but loud noises often scare trauma victims so it might be that.

Is a matter of you try to get around the situation while you wait for therapy. And if you see you're struggling alot, honestly be honest with your boyfriend. Say you need to sleep on a sofa, or if he can do something about the snorring.

@SisterRaven Triggers can be very hard and cause a lot of stress to an individual. The brain has been wired to protect you and for some reason links loud noises to an event that occurred. The brain is very interesting. The part of the brain that is devloped to protect us can also cause us stress because it keeps us in a heightened sense of response related to to the fight, flight or freeze response. This is a good video on trauma and the brain. Hopefully therapy has started and you can find some relief from these symptoms.
