Safe Place?
Coping after experiencing traumatic incidents can be a challenging experience. There may be negative emotions faced by one, one of which can be feelings of fear.
What is one place which, when faced with scared feelings, you can picture in your mind, to feel "safe" again?
One place which I have pictured several times in my mind, as a "safe place," is a childrens' indoor amusement park I used to go to regularly as a child, within a mall. This has allowed me to feel comforted when I've experienced negative feelings.
What is your "safe place" which you can picture in your mind?
@IsabelleJ Creating a safe place, whether in reality or using your imagination can be really helpful when feeling unsafe, due to trauma and its impact.
For me I used to imagine myself on an island and no one was allowed on it unless with permission. I used to imagine the island being surrounding by swimming dolphins, the sea gently lapping the shore and the warmth of the sand beneath my feet with quietness around me :)
My safe place is an island all my own, cliffs on one side for cliff diving, surrounded with crystalline sapphire water where dolphins frolick and splash around. The temperature is always warm and inviting, never too hot or inclement. The water is nice and the white sand is just the right amount of squishy and never scaulding, no matter how sunny it is....
my "safe place" is inside my unicorn onsie
I'm glad that you guys have "safe places" that you can think about in your minds, in order to cope with trauma.
