The Epiphany tw:sexual assault
About 3 years ago I was doing the dishes and I had an epiphany: I was sexually assaulted by my friend during a sleepover when I was a kid.
We were both sleeping in his bed and he got on top of me, pinning me down. He pulled my pants down and kissed me.
I blocked it out for so many years that Id forgotten all about it. I realized that the assault is where a lot of my issues stemmed from. Im also a victim of emotional abuse and domestic violence. That started the year after my assault and went on for the next 15 or so years.
Ive recently gotten out of that terrible situation and am now in a much better place. A place wherein I can finally start recovering. So I figured, why not start now?
Thank you for sharing your story here. It must have taken a great deal of courage to share the personal experience, which you have been through. It sounds like you have encountered a traumatic experience, within your childhood. I am glad to hear that you are now in a better place than you were before, and are ready to start recovering from that experience, which happened to you. It is wonderful that you are looking to move forward and I'm hoping that you can find some healthful and positive coping methods that will assist you in recovering from what happened to you.
I also believe it is helpful for any survivor of trauma to have positive sources of social support from trustworthy, supportive people who can listen to them and encourage them after they have gone through difficult situations. These people can be family members, relatives, friends, teachers, counsellors, medical specialists, Church leaders, etc. It is important for people to talk about the traumatic things that they have been through, instead of holding these experiences inside, and not sharing them, and I think it's great that you have taken the step to do this. I'm hoping that you will be able to connect with people who can help and support you, as well as connecting here with people in this group. Many people have encountered similar situations as the one you've described, so you can know that you are not alone in this, and I think it's understandable that you would like to move on from what happened, starting from the here and now. That's an incredible, and a brave objective, and I'm wishing you all the best with this!
