Unresolved feelings : Former criminal harassment
Something came up for me recently that has brought up some unresolved feelings, regarding criminal harassment by a former neighbor.
A couple days ago there was an uncomfortable situation with an agressive man outside my house. He was looking for "the blonde woman who lives here". I didn't open the door for him, and he became irate and cursed at me. He eventually left when I threatened to call the police. Since I had to go to the ER, for something unrelated, I decided not to report the incident. This experience was unsettling, but not triggering.
I informed my housemates, and the woman who lives in our basement unit, about the incident. They want me to report the incident, for a few reasons which I agree with. It's important to me that everyone who lives here feels safe, and reporting this will certainly provide some comfort for the folks who live here.
As the only witness, reporting the incident is my responsibility. Someone will come with me, so I won't be alone, but despite that, the thought of reporting it is bringing up a lot of old feelings from my past.
Just feeling very nervous, overwhelmed, and a little annoyed with myself for not being "over it". I'm pretty sure I have some kind of undiagnosed PTSD and thought it might help to talk about my feelings here.
Thanks for reading.
@HappiestMango It is not uncommon for feelings from a past trauma to come up again when your brain makes that connection to it. It sounds like this is really difficult for you especially since you seem to know you want to pursue moving forward with this, but know it is bringing up emotions for you. Taking someone with you when you go is a great idea. Almost like having someone to ground your emotions in the moment. Be sure to process any feelings that arise for you as you go through this so that you don't feel re-traumatized.
@HappiestMango
I hope it helped to share whats going on for you.
And if you did report it then I hope it went well bit if you didnt I would judge you either because I know its not always that easy to report bit I am glad to here that you have the support of other people around you, one of which was going to go with you to the station.
So I just hope everything has worked out for you.
I meant to say *wouldn't judge you, sorry for the typo!!!
