flashbacks
I was sexually assaulted by someone I knew when I was 14. I waited 20 years to say anything. I'm 39 now. I did go thru therapy for it. Not sure why, been having really bad flashbacks at night. I'm afraid to go to sleep most nites, cause I know I'll be worken up. I hate the inbetween when you're awake but can feel everything happening all over again. Makes me feel like I'm a scared kid again.
The same thing happened to me when I was 12 I'm in my late 40's now. I never spoke about it until it started to affect my relationships. I've had years of counseling but it never leaves me. I'm in the process of another break up because I can't show love and I'm losing my love because of it.
Flashbacks are so difficult to deal with, and the nightmares too.
I'm sorry you're both continuing to experience these. If you ever need a listening ear, message me. I've been there. I was abused and it took me a lot of time and work to get past all of that trauma. While you've been through a different experience, I can listen and support you during this time.
I feel so sorry that you went through such trauma as being sexually assaulted. You said that you have had gone through therapy for years. I just wanted to write that since quite a few years a therapy technique that is called EMDR can be very efficient to work out and sort out flashbacks and nightmares, although it can be a tough technique (but it is for the best). Did you know about that therapy? It is recognized by professionals as a good one for traumatized people, you can google it easily, but if you decide to try it, be very cautious to choose a certified therapist in EMDR.
Wishing you the very best on your healing path.
