my trauma comes from divorce and it’s starting to affect my relationship so i want to do whatever i can to not let it control me anymore. i’m about to turn 20 this month and my parents separated when i was about 9. even before my parents really started talking and eventually yelling about divorce they were never loving or affectionate with each other. i only ever remember them hugging once and that’s about it. over time my parents started to get more and more confrontational about separating. telling my mom about my dad’s dirty magazines and his match.com profile that i stumbled across while playing in his office only added more fuel to the fire. right before they finally separated my parents would constantly have screaming matches and one they had right before taking me to school lead to me bursting into tears during class and sobbing to my teachers in the hallway about my home problems. once my parents divorced and my dad moved out i thought everything was okay. but now i’m in a serious relationship and the trauma is affecting how i think/react/see myself in my relationship. i’m trying really hard for my boyfriend and i to get better but it’s really difficult

Honey.... That's a horrible thing to go through.... Divorce not an easy topic... And especially when ur parents divorce no kid will ever be happy about it...... We all have an image of a happy family life and sometimes when it gets destroyed... We might not feel it then but it leaves an impact in our mind... But no couple is the same... Though ur parent's relationship never worked out doesn't mean urs won't... Think about why u are with ur boyfriend... Why u love him... And think how u guys are different than ur parents.....Not all relationships break...some stay for years though there maybe some ups and downs.... No relationship is perfect but every relationship doesn't break either.... I am not an expert in relationships so I don't know if this will help... But I always believe that love and trust is the best fuel to any relationship!
