I’m brand new to 7-cups. I have severe childhood trauma of abuse on all levels, relationship traumas, and now a crumbling marriage. I’m horrible with communication and hard to trust others. I need idea for coping (healthy) to help during the extreme moments. I’m already medicated but just doing breathing exercises doesn’t help enough. I also worked ems for 6 years and have traumas from it.

@hrobinson20... I'm sorry that you have experienced so much unpleasantness...have you tried journaling, expressive painting (while you are emotional), cbt therapy with emdr...I found therapy to help me...talking things out can help you keep from spiraling. I've found journaling to be effective during times of intrusive thoughts and flashbacks. maybe these things will help you too. I wish you the best, peace

Hi, I can relate. I too have childhood traumas that are compounded by several new ones occurring in the last 5 years. I have CPTSD and I have felt like you are describing for a long time. I had it buried and contained for a lifetime and then a new trauma came along and blew the lid right off! I was in a bad place for a long time and I just started digging out. For me, I journal, I have a workbook I’m using for my CPTSD and talk to someone once a week. For me, the first step was stepping back and determining what my priorities were and finding a starting point. Starting with the childhood pain was first because that is the place I grew up, in pain and drama, and was formed and my need for love was ignored. That’s where I learned how to cope and those coping mechanisms are what I need to address and change. My responses to life are not as they should be because my development was altered and interrupted during critical stages of development. So, I’m learning ways to confront my feelings and have ways to redirect myself in positive ways. I have a few breathing exercises and mantras in my tool Kit for emergencies. Talking about it, asking for help, doing what you are doing it now, that’s a great beginning!

@hopeful1971. I just had to say OMG your life sounds almost identical to mine. Horrible violent childhood. Suppressed for decades until a recent assault that blew the lid off my huge pain I'd suppressed my entire life. Ugh pretty awful I gotta say but I too am working on it with therapy, journaling, excercising etc. It's rough some days ...I feel like it's going to take me forever to be at peace but I'm trying .... Best 💜 ABB

That's where I'm at too.

Childhood abuse, moved back home after no other options. Realized how terrible my childhood was as well as adding 2 different episodes of domestic violence. (Sister and brother while I moved home, and then a fiancé)

It has compounded and unburied years of abuse and trauma I had blocked out. And now I'm realizing just how broken this left me.

@Hrobison20...I'm sorry to hear about your suffering just wanted to let you know you're not alone and there's alot of great ppl here on 7 cups. Welcome and your doing great reaching out. I personally love it here because it's a safe place to let it all out! I have tons of old and new pain and I have complex PTSD, I'm medicated and see a therapist but it's a definite uphill climb. I fall down alot but by some miracle I keep getting up. I think my biggest problem right now is my triggers I have so many I can't count them. My spouse showed me something on social media ( I'm not on any soc.media) that he thought I would like but it triggered me unbelievably and upset me something awful. He didn't know. So pls know your in good company and we all care here very much ...best 💜 ABB...btw I have my toolbox ,artwork, writing, journaling, excercise, running, cooking, cleaning, reading ...I need lots of things to help me thru ...💜.

I’m so afraid to go down the medication route. A family member struggles with issues, related to a shared family trauma, and they were put on meds. So far the right one hasn’t been found and they have been changing medicines and trying to figure out dosages and side affects…. So, it’s made me wary.

I was medication wary also but I didn't have a choice I was suicidall because of my trauma . There's some good options that don't make you a zombie ,just takes a few to figure out what works for you and your level of trauma, best of luck 💜 ABB

Hi Hrobinson :) I have no answers for you, but wanted to say that I can completely relate - unresolved childhood stuff that has left me a mess, unable to trust, in the middle of a separation... trying to figure out how to feel. Know that you're already doing so much by reaching out and seeking help. Take care!
