It’s been a year

Around this time last year I was in a car accident. I broke my neck back pelvis and left hand, I have brain damage and partial paralysis in my right leg, and rly bad ptsd. I just recently started a new job where I travel a lot so I’m having to be in a car and on the highway a lot. It freaks me out a lot, I find myself clenching the seat the entire way there. Last night my driver switched lanes really fast and the car rocked a little and I started crying and having a panic attack because it triggered my ptsd. I don’t know how to control if, it’s been a year since the accident and I still have these episodes and flashbacks, and nightmares every single night

It sounds like you went through an incredibly scary experience and are now having to deal with something that brings it back up. Given what you went through, it makes sense to be uncomfortable and even to cry, though I know its not what you would have chosen. What helped you through the initital experience of ptsd?

Hey Rosie,

I'm sorry to hear that you were in a car accident about a year ago. I understand how scary of experience that can be. Especially when you were seriously injured. I would understand why you have PTSD from this traumatic event a year ago. I can't imagine something happening like that. I understand why you're scared to be on the roads for fearing the same thing to happen again to you. I would feel that way too. It sounds like you clenching your seat is a normal response. As you feel like you're in your fight or flight state. I understand you were scared about the person switching lanes really fast and triggering your ptsd by rocking it. I'm sorry to hear you had a panic attack but I would say normal response when you are in the fight or flight state. I understand it's really hard to control ptsd. It's normal to have flashbacks and nightmares everynight after this traumatic event. I hope you find something that helps you. Whether it is coping skills, going to therapy or something along those lines. i know it's hard to recover from PTSD but I believe you can do it. It takes time and patience. But everything will be okay. I know it's hard to believe right now but trust me on this. I wish the best for you and that you will feel better soon. I want you to know you're not alone and that 7 cups is here to support you. Please take care of yourself and your mental health.
