I have a question....

when I dissacociate, my entire emotional system shuts down and i feel nothing to the point of almost feeling like I do not exist...

but something new happened that I would like to ask about:

In addition to not feeling, emotionally, I had NO feeling in my body.

I tried to do grounding and touch things and bring myself back to the present moment...

but none of that worked because there was 0 feeling in my body, hands, face, fingers, feet - nothing.

Does this go hand in hand with dissacociation? DID?

Basiclaly, I am lost and confused and worried.

Has this happened to anyone else when they " shut down"?

I would really appreciate any feedback.....I am quite lost and nervous about this.

thanks.

@blissedNblessed

HI Blissed you may find the following links useful to you in answering some of the questions you raised. It is very common for those with a dissociative disorder to be so out of touch with their body that they do not feel physically, not being aware of temperatures, pain, whether they are ill etc. Its quite common for many therapists to work with clients to feel more present and grounded in the here and now and to try and tune into what their body feels, what they emotionally feel, as this can be really difficult to tune into when your dissociative, and often what one part may experience, is not necessarily the same as another. I dont know whether your in therapy or counselling but perhaps this could be something to raise with your therapist if you have one. An experienced therapist for dissociative disorders will be well aware of this problem for clients who are dissociative. :) Its good that your able to practise grounding exercises and the more your able to draw on this, you may find you begin to be more aware of what your feeling physically

@blissedNblessed Your most welcome and any other questions feel free to ask and will do my best to answer them :) It can be difficult to get your head around things when you first receive a diagnosis but take your time, ask things you need to know, do a little reading if you feel up to it and just remember there is support here if you need :)
