Self blame and paranoia
The police weren’t sent out to help me when I needed them and even though I know that their response is the reason the perp was never caught, I blame myself for being too afraid to confront the burglar. How do I avoid this? And how do I avoid being paranoid that if I’m a victim to a crime in the future then the police will once again refuse to respond?
@HarrietB
There is no shame nor blame for submitting to an armed criminal.
Not counting on a prompt police response is not paranoia, it´s a sad reality and it´s a reality you know first hand.
All this said, and as odd it might sound. according to many studies and research, taking a self-defense course can make you feel more confident and less afraid.
I mean not martial arts, like Karate o Tae-Kown-Do, but a self-defense system, like Krav-Maga.
There are also lots of videos on Youtube about basic techniques you can practice at home.
It would great if you could regularly practice with a friend, in a somewhat recreational, playful manner. As a complement, there are fun cardio kicking and punching workouts on Youtube like this one HERE
I hope this helps.
All the best !
