Thoughtful Thursday: Self-discovery through recovery

Hey all,

As a survivor (and thriver) of childhood trauma, I'm all too aware of the pieces that have needed to be picked up (and frankly, put back together) as an adult.

This was necessitated purely by the effects of having parents who could not process their own emotions or traumas. They unknowingly perpetuated the unfortunate legacy of generational rot, until someone broke that chain. And to break it, you have to basically cultivate large amounts of self-awareness and mindfulness.

And while I would love to take most of the credit, I've had the right people in my life at the right time and places to have given me the opportunities to put in the work. I won't lie, it's not fun being left with something like complex PTSD, but the silver-lining is that I have truly discovered myself on such a deep level.

The story of my parents may be a sad one, but it doesn't have to be *my* story.

@WarmLightXO

Thank you!!

While it certainly took much longer than I may have wanted, and with the maintenance process to maintain the progress still very much being a thing, I have to wonder at this point if my personality would still be the same if I hadn't have gone through what I did. :)

That makes sense, our struggles certaintly play a part in making us who we are! Warm wishes for this maintenance part of your journey 💜

@RainbowUnicorn1266

Thank you!!

Honestly, validation from a stranger means just as much as to me; I'm humbled by *anyone* who gives me those kind of compliments. Simply because there have been many times where I *haven't* felt strong. So, thank you again, sincerely. :)
