TW: Sexually Assault

Hello! Almost a year ago I was sexually assaulted in a elevator by an older man...but didn't even know it was sexuap assault. I was in shocked and just brushed it off. Now, a year later I realized how serious it was and now I'm processing pretty much all of it and even since it happened it did affect my social life including dating. It leaves me shaking when I think about it and idk how to process it. Is it normal to realize you were sexually assaulted a year after it happened. Any advice or resources?

@sarahtonen23

Thank you for being so brave in posting this Sarah! I am extremely sorry you had to go through that. I can relate to it, I am a gang rape survivor and it happened to me nearly 2 years back, I started processing it months after it happened and till date I sometimes remember new details and new issues to process.

From what I know, our mind takes time to feel safe to process what happened and this whole processing through trauma and healing isn't easy to do alone and you do not have to be alone in this. We as a community are here to suppport you, you can connect to a listener for 1-1 support, share your feelings and thoughts in Group support chatrooms, I like being active in Sharing Circle and I definitely would suggest taking a therapist help, I started therapy just 3 months after the attack and there has been ups and downs but the sooner you start is better, therapy has been a good aid for me. You can find a therapist here at 7 cups too.

Your feelings and emotions are valid and relatable. You are a brave individual. Sending you love❤
