How do you define the difference between abuse and bad choices? Is a relationship with a 30 year age difference abusive? 18 and 47. Is that wrong no matter what? What if they were your teacher? I feel like the word abuse is so elusive in this situation because 18 is technically an adult. What if it hurts like abuse but you can only blame yourself? What if the teacher asked if they were hurting you and you said no? Can that still be abuse? I don't feel like I've earned the right to declare abuse. What if I'm just fucked up and made bad decisions? With victims of rape it's obvious that is abuse... But what about when a student is an adult technically and sleeps with their 46 year old teacher? What the fuck do you call that? Can I even deserve to feel bad about that? I feel so alone and like a creep. Why was I so dumb?

@Guiltyvictim

Confused, maybe. But not dumb.

If he does hurt you then it is technically abuse. Not really sure how you can "deserve" abuse. Both of you are adults so the gravity of the situation doesn't escape you I'm sure but that is what it is.

The relationship itself is fine. Age gap aside, the only problem may be ethical as you are a student involved with a teacher who can then manipulate your scores, etc. So its an ethics problem. If this person does not personally teach yo, thats fine but still not really cool with most of society. The age gap may also be disconcerting to some.

But if you're both happy and can gaurantee that it will not affect professional life then OK. But abuse is abuse is any shape or form. So may some bad decisions have been made here.

You say you're an adult, you must decide whats right and wrong here. People can't do that online for you unfortunately.

All the best.
