Hello, I’m new here
Hello! I’m new here and I just have been a bit overwhelmed recently. I’m 22 and I got my first boyfriend about 4 months ago. I was molested for about 10 years starting at the age of 7 by three different people. My boyfriend is the only person that I’ve ever told but he keeps telling me that I need to see a therapist and get mental health help. I agreed to make an appointment next Monday but I just don’t know what to do. I know that I have a lot of mental health problems and that I need help but I just don’t know where to start. He said that he’ll go with me as moral support but I’m just so unsure about the whole thing. I want to be normal I really really do and I don’t want all this paranoia and anxiety anymore but I don’t know how to talk to a therapist. My mind keeps showing me the worst case scenarios of the therapist saying that it’s all my fault or that I need to be ashamed of myself of making me feel worse in any way. I just don’t know that to do… for any of you that have been to therapy, how did it go? Were you able to talk about the things that happened to you? Did it actually help? Please let me know.
p.s. Don’t worry about my handle, I first made this account in 2015 lol.

Im sorry you have this trauma background. I understand. I too have a lot of trauma. In my experience I wished I'd gotten help sooner because therapy would have helped me avoid more trauma experiences over the course of my life. In my experience, Therapy is like an education in what trauma does and how to process it and be aware of your vulnerability. You are not defective. You are a good person who deserves help in processing all your experiences. My therapist makes me feel safe and I can tell her anything. She's helped me navigate ways to improve my life.
Therapy is a gift you give yourself in order to heal. There's nothing bad or weird about it.
I think your boyfriend is so wonderful to offer support in going with you. He wants you to have the best life.
I wish you the best

@OneDirectionLover I would say, take your time to decide if and (maybe) which therapist you want to visit. You can have some talks with therapist before if she suites for you, so far I know. Here are btw. online therapists. They can give you good help too I am sure and I am sure they won´t blame you. Btw. there is nothing you have to be blamed for. I think I know your feeling. I was worried about that too for a long time about that.
Your guilty of nothing. Wish you strength.
