I feel like I should be over it
My freshmen year of high school I was raped by senior boy friend. I am currently in treatment for an eating disorder (7 years later). I feel like a lot of the issues with my body and not feeling good enough go back to that. But no one knows. And it was only twice. I feel like I shouldn't effect me this way. Is that normal?
hi there,
Firstly I am so sorry for what happened to you, it was very wrong and not your fault at all. There is no timeline for recovering from rape as everyone is different and it is not unusual that you are struggling with it 7years later.
I assume you have a therapist helping you with your eating disorder? does he/she know what happened?
also I am assuming you are in the US? if so, you might find this website useful ... https://www.rainn.org/ they have an online chat service 1-1 specifically for rape survivors.
You are not alone with this and there is help out there.
Be kind to yourself and stay strong, try not to pressure yourself to get over it, you will, but in your own time.

Thank you for your supportive words. I do have a therapist but I haven't told her about this. I don't know how to tell- like btw this happened.
i checked out the rain website it was really helpful!
@faithfulMap2283 I think you just have to say it any way you can. I struggle with the same thing. It's hard to open up. It's like, there's no great opening line for a story about how you were raped. I get it. But it is important that your therapist knows.
I agree with Dragon girl. As a survivor myself, it's hard to process the trauma you went through physically and emotionally. The fact that this was your boyfriend also shows violation of trust. You have alot to live for, please dont give up.
