My Story.

April 4th, 2016

In 2014 I found out that my best friend, my cousin Erik, was in love with me. At the time, I was only 14 and he was 20. I knew he was my cousin, and I knew he was too old for me, but I went on to date him anyways.

Our relationship was great, he treated me wonderfully. I hated how we had to keep it a secret, it killed me. At the time, I thought I was truly in love with him and I wanted everyone to know.

We dated from March of that year up until August. August was when I started high school. That's when I finally started making friends. I told my best friend Mark what my situation was with Erik. He was really against it, he thought Erik was holding me back. I went back and thought about all of this and realized that I didn't think Erik was the one for me anymore.

I broke up with erik, but he surprisingly wasn't upset or anything. After we broke up we continued to go along still being friends
In December of that year during break, I met a guy. I began to fall for him and lost my virginity to him. That ended out not working, but that's a different story.

The day after I lost my virginity, I was out at my grandparents. My cousin erik was visiting and we were the only ones there. I told him about what happened the day before. I began to see the anger in his eyes. He threw me down on the couch and began to rape me... I won't go into detail because I prefer not to After it happened, we went back to watching TV and never said anything about it. I didn't want to believe it happened.

I told one person about what happened, Mark. He began to see that it was affecting me emotionally so he called an anonymous tip line at my school and told them. The counselor pulled me into her office the day we got back from break and I told her what happened.

Today, I am currently in a court case with Erik. He pled not guilty and I go back to court next month.

The majority of my family won't talk to me because they are taking his side and they don't believe me. I've lost half of my family just because I stood up for myself and told someone what happened.

I think the whole thing has really changed me as a person. My anxiety has gotten 10x worse, I'm very paranoid, and becoming more and more depressed. No one seems to understand what I'm going through, I feel so alone.

If you're reading this, thank you for listening. I hope you have a wonderful day <3

Darling, you are loved by all of us here at 7 Cups.

Words can't express how sorry I feel that all of this happened to you and how my heart breaks that you had to deal with all of this, and without the support of the majority of your family. Going through such an ordeal sucks to begin with, and feeling like you're being ostracized only makes it worse.

You've already done the unthinkable though. You brought it to light and you're now in a court case against him - something not many survivors do.

You have my love and support and know that there are so many support groups and advocacy groups out there for you! If there is anything we can do to shoulder part of your burden, please don't at all hesitate to reach out.
