Other's Reactions To My Assault/Getting It Off My Chest
This is my first post in the forums so, hi!
tw: sexual assault I guess
As a toddler my mom would often leave me at my grandparent's house while she was at work. She had lots of siblings, so when I was 3 or 4 she had siblings that were still in high school.
To pass the time I would often lay in my uncle's closet with him on the clothes that were on the floor. I remember looking up in the dark closet and seeing board games stacked on shelves above. I used to think he was my friend. Later, a therapist told me this was "grooming".
Other details I remember are his yellow walls (which I am only now at 21 learning to like the color yellow again) and he had a room near the roof so the ceiling was slanted. I remember my mom calling for me, but he wouldn't let me off his bed and I remember worrying I was going to get in trouble for not coming when called.
When my mom finally got up to his room, my diaper/pull-up was still around my ankles and as my mom carried me away she said, "We aren't going to tell Dad about this."
I told one of my friends my story because I've found it helps my recovery and they immediately shot me down when I said how old I was saying , "That's impossible, you were too young to remember."
The other reaction I got was from my older brother's girlfriend. I found out my uncle was forcing my brother to hold his p*rn.
She said, "It's a good thing it happened, because when it was caught, your brother was helped because of it."
@lightSouth7137
Thank you for sharing your story.
It's true, some people can have awful reactions to stories involving abusing or trauma. Some reactions are accusatory, disbelieving, nonchalant, and even validating reactions may make us feel like we are suddenly on display. Thankfully some good reactions and empathy and comradery we might find can make it up for it.
Keep sharing (at your own pace)! :)
@lightSouth7137 that is a way to put victims down: "you were to young to remember". That rattles my cage like nothing else!!! "You are crazy", "you are too young to remember", "you were halucinating". These are ways to sutvictims down!!!! Yes I remember I was abused and yes I remember all the details!!! And...I'm sorry but I'm enraged again seeing victims becoming victims again by "shushing"...I feel for you and I am totally enraged!!!! And belive me I never use "!" signs in excess, I am a calm person but this rattlled my cage like nothing else...I'm sorry for you, wish it never happened, wish life wasn't like this...
