Survivors with social anxiety out there?

Hi all,

I think I really need a therapist or healing circle to process my assault, because I seem to get triggered by small things, like a friend posting about a sexually-charged tv show. Also I was wondering if anyone else here is a survivor with social anxiety? Because my social trauma and sexual trauma seem to sort of be overlapping right now, like I'm afraid of feeling unheard in social settings when the topic of sex comes up and have the whole group mock me as a survivor and mock my worth, sexuality, preferences, etc. In particular, I'm a very serious emotional person, so hearing people talk about personal issues socially in a way that is more chit-chatty and superficial is a trigger because I'm afraid I'll be mocked for "not getting the joke" or being a buzzkill. Like calling out someone for making a sexist or transphobic joke or something is already hard and can "kill the mood", so combined with having a secret very personal assault and complicated traumatic relationship with sex and only being "out" to certain people about having an assault can be rough.

I'm sorry to hear that you've experienced an assault, no-one deserves that. :\ I agree with you that a therapist may really help you understand your thought processes and potentially reduce the likelihood of being triggered by small things. That must be exhausting! Have you considered the therapists here? I can relate to a lot of the things you've said here actually. It seems talking more about what happened and coming to terms with it could help you make a step forward in your recovery. And to be honest, the views of others don't matter. What matters is you and how you're feeling and your own recovery. Those who make fun or make you feel horrible are those not worth being in your life in the first place!
