Time!
Hi!
I was raped 20yrs ago when I was 15 and on holiday. I've never told my parents or many people to be honest. Does the pain ever go away? How can I stop those awful feelings from taking hold of me and throwing my life into despair?
Loce to you all x x x

I would say no, it doesn't go away with out help. The sooner you get help, you can start the journey to healing. I would suggest don't put it off. If you have never had any kind of counseling maybe start with CBT (Cognitive behavioral therapy) then go into DBT (Dialectal behavior therapy) in the meantime there are some great, wonderful resources on here-7 cups. Go to your 'Path' scroll down to the bottom and start going thru the self-help guides. They are a mix of CBT and DBT. I have found these therapies to be so tremendously helpful in my life. I am a survivor of CSA and did not seek help seriously, until the past year. I have been to counseling on and off throughout the years and functioned but it has not really been until I started an intense trauma therapy program CPT (Cognitive processing therapy) last december that I have seen the reality of being at peace with myself and the world around me in general. I will not sugar-coat this for you. It will be a hard road, at times it will feel like you are clawing your way up the side of a rock cliff, hanging on by your nails. But the things you will learn that will enable you to live in freedom, to have a peace undescrible, to have hope, to find out who you really are will be worth the pain. It will take a lot of work on your part. Daily re-training your brain and body to understand and feel life differently. Like my counselor said recently, "You are only in my office one hour a week, the rest of the week you are out there; home, work, social, life doing the work and going thru the struggle, the battle to get better." One last thing and I will quit being so 'wordy'. There is a quote that has helped me in the hardest times. "Until the pain of staying the same becomes greater than the fear to change, you will stay in your mess" Hope all of this helps. -kathy
