School Shooting Survivor TW
I was in a school shooting almost 4 years ago, i convinced myself for so long that I was fine, no one died so there was no way for me to experience loss or grief right? I only have recently come to a realization that a part of me went to school that day day and never came back (cliche i know). I feel like the me who’s biggest fear was not getting into a perfect college, having a cute outfit, and making friends was gone. The new “normal” for me was these things but with little asterisks. Does my future college have safety plans for mass shootings, how hard would the paramedics have to work to get this shirt off me if i got shot today, and will I be able to move on if my friends suddenly died. These stupid asterisks I have to life are so frustrating. Now i’m finally trying to take me life back and properly grieving my naitivity i lost that day.
@limegreenNectarine3673 I am so so sorry that you had to experience that. Let me just tell you that you are allowed to grieve even if no one was lost. You experienced something that many people will never experience and will never be able to understand. Grieve all you need to grieve!! Don't let others tell you how to feel. It has changed you and you can feel however you need to feel to get through it! We are here for you!❤️ I am so grateful that you are here with us too.
U r definitely grieving ur innocence, hope, and faith. It will take time, and I'm sure u will always be guarded for ur safety, but it continues to get better, little by little and some days, big leaps forward. May ur future be fulfilling and safe, and may it honor all that u lost that horrifying day.
My heart goes out to you. This appears to be a uniquely American problem and very little is being done about it. Sadly, this happens every day. On the other hand, that means there will be many people who you can connect to who do understand what this feels like. I’m so sorry you have shifted from a state of normalcy to fear, and understandably so. You’re having a normal reaction to an abnormal situation. I hope and pray you seek out the therapy you need, and I’m so glad you have found solace here on 7 Cups. ✨💕✨
