Comfort after abuse?

I have been in my current relationship for 20+ years. In 2020, we started having much more intense arguments that lead to some very degrading verbal abuse from my spouse. It was extremely damaging for me and even though the name-calling has stopped, there is still occasional yelling. We have been kicked out of marriage counseling because of my husband's temper. He is attempting to work with his forth individual therapist and does show genuine remorse. I don't know if he can change, but most importantly I want to know if it's possible to ever feel safe again with a previous abuser? I don't feel any level of comfort from him. His voice does not make me feel better, his touch does nothing for me. Will this ever come back? Is there any hope for me?

I have been in shoes of verbal and emotional abuse and at it longer then you ... and frankly i do not believe that when the feeling when they touch you or even if they are sincere now the words all seem to little too late ...

some come back from the worst but i think it is a mindset... i let my dislike and sometimes hate grow... instead of letting  past go and forgive all that i could have....

only you know if you can see a future or not
