Problems in my relationship with my parents and my boyfriend.
Hi!
I need to make a decision in my life. But I have no one to turn to for advice. I'm very nervous and I'm very scared because this is a very important step in my life.
After I met my boyfriend, I began to have conflicts with my parents. I met him before my eighteenth birthday and they didn't like the fact that I started a relationship. Every time I went on a date my mom came with us. After another conflict where my parents were very rude to me and said mean things about my boyfriend I made the decision to leave him. For half a year I felt very bad about leaving him. So bad that I hurt myself and almost killed myself. But at some point I decided to make up with him and change my life for the better.
We made up and I felt very happy. We went on dates and everything was fine until the start of the war in Ukraine. I had to leave my hometown with my parents where it was quite dangerous. I haven't seen him for over a year and because of that my boyfriend and I also have conflicts. He doesn't like long-distance relationships and I do too, but there is nothing I can do about it. I'm eighteen now, and I've decided that I want to move in with my boyfriend.
And when I told my parents, there was a big fight.
The problem is that my boyfriend doesn't work and I want to work. It's okay for us to share responsibilities. He will do the housework, I will work. My parents say it's a man's responsibility to provide for the girl and say my boyfriend will beat me up, make me work and clean the house. Use me for sex and money. Such words offend me very much.
My boyfriend said that if I do not come back before the summer, he probably will not be able to continue to date me and we will have to break up.
I love him very much, and in the interval of six months without our relationship, I have made many conclusions for myself. I am very determined that he is the perfect partner for me. We have a lot in common, we can talk for hours on any topic, understand each other easily and care about each other. I really don't want to lose him. For three years of relationship we have become very close, despite all the difficulties.
But on the other hand my parents will never let me go so easily.
I probably have a choice to run away from them or leave my boyfriend.
I can't sleep because of the panic. What should I do? That's why I need help. Any advice or solution to the problem. Thank you for reading.
You remind me of my sister. She ran off ended up having kida with the guy but after awhile my mom forgave her. But things happen later to the family having hard times and now both are not talking to one other for years now and never will.
Basicly I'm saying things could work out or not.
Right now it sounds like your parents and boyfriend are playing tug a war and you are the rope
These decisions should be easy to make otherwise you shouldn't have to make such a life changing choice
Last thing I have to say and most important
Who can you not live life without?
Parents?
Boyfriend (not husband)
Both?

While you are 18 and can make a decision about your future .....
please think deeply about both sides as the truth often lies in the middle...
the idea of supporting him may sound good to you now......... but in time...... regardless of male or female when one person is carrying a bigger load in the relationship ...... saying you will work he will do all else is a plan but often this does not work ...... then the other resentment forms ....IMO i have done both been the stay home and worked while he was between jobs ....... both items did not go as well as one might expect.
the 6 month time limit for him ....... is also a red flag .....in my mind....... i realize you have been apart a lot but it just struck me as he wants to not work and support himself....maybe he is looking for someone else willing to take on the financial burden.
Living with someone is totally different then dating ... you may find not what you thought it would be ... even if you changed mind and went home do you really want to hear I told you so for decades from parents....
