I recently read that many people that are depressed get stuck in online forums to deal with loneliness rather that going out into the real world and making connections with people that you can share your life with.

In other words it fine to make online friends but life happens in the real-world. If you want the full benefits of friendship you will also have to risk the down side of them too.
