The name 7cups is named after a poem by Chinese poet Lu Tong, he said“The vast majority of people are not struggling with any really significant disorders. They are just going through a hard time."

Originally, it's from an ancient Chinese poem, the Song of Tea, written by Lu T’ung in around 780 AD. The tea was a special kind of tea grown only for the Emperor of China.
This special tea was so powerful that the maximum dose was said to be three cups. In the poem, the poet tries to drink seven cups, but dies after the sixth, so that the seventh is never drunk. However, most people in modern times only quote the middle lines of the poem, in a form of translation that conceals the fact that it's about a fatal drug overdose.
