You're in The Netherlands? I was fortunate enough to be able to visit there (but only for a couple of days) back in the summer of 1985. I *loved* it there. Such a beautiful country, and the people were all so warm and friendly.

Oh my! I've slept a few times since I've been to The Netherlands. 
Once upon a time, waaay back in the day, I could have told you the towns that we visited. However, I don't recall them off the top of my head. We crossed the English Channel on an overnight ferry...and the beds had "seat belts"! 
Now that was something unique for a group of Texans. 
Then we got back on our beloved double decker bus and drove to a beautiful little town where we passed the morning. The streets were very narrow compared to Texas streets. I do wish I could remember that charming town. Do you know that feeling when something wants to be remembered and it feels like it's juuuuust barely past your fingertips? LOL! That's what I'm feeling right now. We only stayed a couple of days, and we didn't go to any of the larger cities. I'm still in touch with one of the people that was in the same group I was. I'll se if she remembers the name of the town.

Sounds really awesome! And beds with seatbelts?? That's something unique for millenial Dutch girls too hahahaha. No idea which place you could mean, Like, half of the borders of my country are the sea, so there are a lot of harbors you could have arrived with your boat, especially since it's been so long ago, things probably changed. I bet it was either Amsterdam or Rotterdam though, which means you were close to my place
I love to hear people talk about places I've been, especially if they've been there a long time ago. It's exciting to hear the stories about what changed, but mostly about what stayed the same.
@JayTheBird14, it was Zierikzee! I believe it's a bit south of Rotterdam. I can't believe that after several days, the name of the town just popped right into my brain. LOL! That's what getting old does for you.
I didn't strap myself into bed that night, but I sure was sea sick the next morning. We got to Zierikzee early enough that we had to wait for the sun to finish rising and people to get to work. Such a lovely experience.

Oh goodies you went to Zierikzee! Yeah it does have a harbor there, there's a lot actually around that area but they're all fairly small. So yeah, I can imagine how quiet and peaceful it must have been around that time.
A friend of mine actually lives close to that area. I used to stay over there sometimes when I was a bit younger, and I remember this one moment I woke up and couldn't quite fall back to sleep. So I watched the sunrise through this small window that looked out over a couple of fields. It was beautiful and kinda funny to finally be up before the roosters could wake me XD
Fun to hear of your experiences, I'm glad you could come up with the name again. I know it ain't an easy one for non-Dutch-speakers.
