The American dream (reposted) - thoughts
I want to write you all something that I think is true, but that doesn't mean you should believe me because we all have different perspectives on the world, and each one is special and lovely. Today, however, I want to give you guys something different, something that many people probably don't discuss in everyday life but rather at school because "The American Dream" is a term you hear in social studies because it relates back to before any of us were born. However, I recently had a discussion question in my honors ELA that said,The American Dream is defined by the Merriam-Webster Dictionary as "A joyful way of living that is believed of by many Americans as something that can be accomplished by anyone in the U.S., especially by working hard and becoming successful."" The American Dream, to put it simply, is the belief that anyone in the country who is prepared to put in a lot of effort may own a home and lead a comfortable life.
"Do you think that every American can achieve the American Dream? Why not, or why?
I knew my response to the question as soon as I read it. To be honest, I wrote my response honestly and from the heart, and that's when I realized I did have a point. You see, "The American Dream" was a big dream that many people think they can't achieve, yet perhaps you can. My response to this query is based on knowledge, comprehension, and the truth. "Yes, because if you set a goal and look forward to it and strive to work harder for it, then you will accomplish it, but if you set a goal and say, 'Ugh, I don't want to do it,' or make excuses like, 'Oh, I'm too busy,' then no, you will never have a successful life because, in the end, you are comfortable where you are, even if it's the bottom." Do you have to agree with what I've said? No, you don't. Would you be interested in hearing my viewpoint? Sure, but you are responsible for that. I'm not trying to tell you what I think the true "American Dream" is; all I'm saying is that you have to discover the "American Dream" within yourself. Farewell, Madi W.

Interesting read, I'll substitute 'American' with 'Life' and just make the point that the future is not in your control, you can influence it by how you live your life in the present moment, looking after your healh, investing for your future etc but the reality is you could quite simply be in the wrong place at the wrong time and there is no future.

Personally, I think that sometimes setting a goal isn't enough, because social factors and the environment you're in play a big role. It's not just about willpower, it's influenced by these things. Thanks for reading my humble opinion😊

I agree as I have seen it in action.
It is not defined by anyone other than the person themselves. What maybe a dream for someone and they are content and happy is seen as a failure in someone else's eyes. In too many situations IMO people use a fake narrative of what the phrase means to show how No one can achieve it to tell themselves why bother.
