Best First Steps

Hi all, new here and just wanted to ask about the best first steps.

I’ve lived with anxiety for a number of years now, and I’ve never been able to talk to anyone about it. It’s getting to the point where it’s affecting my relationships, and I feel like I can never truly be honest with those around me.

I just wanted to gauge how anyone with anxiety started out getting help, and started working through any issues rather than just bottling them up and making them all worse.

Any information or advice would be much appreciated.

@Cole25 I too have dealt with anxiety most of my life, well before I knew what it was. Nos that I know, I spend a bit of time on myself daily -- doing a few minutes of self-reassuring talk to bring me back into a place of calm.

I have done a lot of information searches over the years for ways to calm myself and re-center (a word I got from my research), and most times it works -- sometimes it doesn't depeninding on the level of stress.

It is a learning experience to see what best works for you. I am here to, to have someone to talk with just so I can have conversations with someone who may understand how I am feeling and can relate where sometimes my family cannot

Thank you for the detailed response. It’s reassuring to hear someone who can relate.

That sounds like a great idea, I’m definitely prone to letting these thoughts fester, rather than actually processing the reasons why it’s making me anxious to work through it. Then stressing about the idea being anxious, it seems like a never ending cycle.

Have you had any experience with anxiety attacks? It’s rare that I get them, but more so recently. The feeling of being out of control is something that I struggle to deal with in these situations.

I completely relate and am having such a hard time right now. He only way I can explain it is acid between my shoulder blades, a sinking pit in my stomach, and every little thing makes me jump. I’m struggling to get through work never mind a social life. I need to stick it out but I don’t know how. I love sleeping but as soon as I wake up the cycle starts all over again
