Finding 7cups

I found 7cups as a member first. A while back, a Tumblr post circulated about the website imalive.org, which is partnered with 7 Cups of Tea. There was a day when I was having a terrible anxiety attack and couldn't get out of bed. My laptop was beside the bed, so I picked it up and opened it. I'd remembered imalive.org's website address, so I went to the website but they were offline and directed me here.

I was able to connect to a listener who talked me through the anxiety attack until I was able to get out of bed and go downstairs. This was so important to me, since talking on phones exacerbates my anxiety. Without that listener, I don't know how much longer it would have taken me to calm down.

After that, I realized that I could become a listener. I've always wanted to work in counseling, but funds/other planshave thus far prevented me from going to college. I wanted to become a trained crisis counselor for a suicide hotline, but the aforementioned issues talking on the phone killed that dream. 7 Cups has allowed me a place where I can help and support people in the way I love without feeling anxious, and it's wonderful.

I joined as a listener in the middle of February 2014, and thus far I've tried to be as involved in the community as possible, talking with listeners and members alike and writing blog posts for the website. It's been a very rewarding experience, and I'm very happy to be here. :)

I'm surprised it hasn't been mentioned yet given the amount of people who visit it.

I was not feeling so great and went on reddit, /r/anxiety or /r/depression, I can't quite remember which... First listener I had was not such a great one unfortunately (you won't know who you are, I was a guest!) but the second one, Amazing, top notch, wow, oh my god I wish I could give you a brohug. It was what, 4 days ago? He gave me hope for my future, and I have never been so sure and willing to try to pick up my life. I will definitely do my best to become an astrophysicist Dan. I will make you proud and then I will find you and give you a big hug, take your around the world. I will make it up to you.

But yes, all this paragraph to say, I found it on reddit and I havealways been a good listener and seeing I had the opportunity to help others made me quite happy and hopeful about the organization.

I had a tumblrconsisting of thinspiration pictures and I was starving myself. Before tumblr terminated my account, they recommended 7 Cups of Tea. I came here...and after a few failed attempts...I finally found a listener that helped me out of my relapse...and she motivated me to become a listener so I could help other people :)

I found this site through a link that somebody posted on a similar "social support group" site called Experience Project.

I find these emergingsupportive sites to be such novel and brilliant ideas. In general, social media seems to get a bad reputation. Interactions on mainstream social media sites, like Facebook or Twitter, are typically shallow, egocentric, or negative.

For the past few months, I've been going through a very painful experience. For a while, the only person I could confide in was my brother. But ever since I stumbled upon Experience Projectand7 Cups of Tea, I've connected with wonderful people who have helped me throughout my ordeal. These people were the reason why I gained the courage to seek help with a professional counselor.

Even though online interaction should never replace face-to-face interactions, I truly believe you can build meaningful relationships with people online.I really hope these types of supportive websitescatch on.
